The Senior Field Staff, Restoration & Infrastructure performs skilled technical support and equipment operation on a variety of field work activities that support environmental projects and programs delivered by the Erosion Risk Management, Restoration and Resource Management, Construction Services, or Professional Services teams.
Major Responsibilities:- Performs skilled labour, collaborating with and mentoring junior team members in the safe operation of work for completion of projects
- Executes on a number of general field work duties related to specific project/program area including planting and daily maintenance of seedbeds and production fields
- Seed scouting, collection, processing, and sowing of native tree and shrub seed and harvest and production of bioengineering products
- Collects and inputs field data according to project scope
- Ensures that quality control and assurance measures are followed at all steps of the work process
- Assists with the transportation of materials to and from sites as required
- Directs the public to project notice signage and possibly providing contact information for additional information and inquiries, referring detailed questions and complaints to supervisor
- Participates in the daily safety meetings including tailgate meetings, hazard identification and emergency planning
- Assists with maintenance and operation of equipment and vehicles, performs circle and other health and safety checks. Reports potential maintenance requirements to supervisor
- Maintains equipment (storage, organization, minor repairs)
Education (degree/diploma/certifications)
- Completion of college diploma in Restoration Management or a related field
- Valid Class G2 driver’s license
- Demonstrated knowledge of forestry, horticultural science, restoration ecology, and terrestrial ecosystem processes.
- Knowledge of native and invasive plants with proficient plant identification skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with tact and courtesy
- Demonstrated ability to proactively identify problems in a timely manner, seeking the appropriate level of support to solve issues
- Proficiency in MS Office for general office communications (I.e., mail, spreadsheet and word processing software, including online enablement software such as MS teams and SharePoint)
- Demonstrated experience with agricultural/landscape equipment, implements, and power tools
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, related Regulations and legislation
- Repetitious and strenuous physical activities related to nursery activities including digging, bending, lifting, manual weeding
- Required to lift or carry objects that could weigh up to 45lbs
