The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for civil water, wastewater, and road construction projects. This role involves analyzing project specifications, collaborating with various stakeholders, and developing detailed cost breakdowns to support project bidding and execution. The Estimator plays a crucial role in ensuring that projects are financially viable and aligned with company goals.
Key Responsibilities- Cost Estimation: Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil water, wastewater, and road construction projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Bid Preparation: Develop comprehensive bid proposals, ensuring that all client requirements and project specifications are accurately reflected in the estimate.
- Quantity Takeoffs: Perform quantity takeoffs from construction drawings and specifications to determine the scope of work and required resources.
- Market Research: Conduct research on material costs, labor rates, and subcontractor pricing to ensure estimates are competitive and reflect current market conditions.
- Risk Analysis: Identify potential risks and uncertainties in project estimates and develop contingency plans to address them.
- Collaboration: Work closely with estimating team, engineers, contract administrator and other stakeholders to gather the necessary information for accurate estimates and to understand project scope and requirements.
- Value Engineering: Provide input on cost‑saving opportunities and value engineering options to enhance project profitability without compromising quality.
- Documentation: Maintain organized records of all estimates, bids, and supporting documentation for future reference and project audits.
- Review and Analysis: Analyze completed projects to compare estimated costs with actual costs, identifying areas for improvement in future estimates.
- Client Interaction: Participate in pre‑bid meetings and client presentations, providing expertise and insights into the estimation process.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5–7 years of experience in construction estimating, with a focus on civil water, wastewater, and road construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
- Proficiency in Bid2
Win estimating software and tools (e.g., Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel, and Jonas construction management software). - Excellent analytical and mathematical skills, with a keen eye for detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts.
- Knowledge of current market conditions and industry trends.
- Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or equivalent certification.
- Experience with public sector bidding and government contracts.
- Familiarity with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and other advanced construction technologies.
