This Role

IMMEDIATE NEED - HIRING NOW

Robinson Brothers Construction, LLC is seeking a skilled Telecom/Splicer to join our traveling crew. Our contracts span the Pacific Northwest and the West Coast, encompassing the western states. The role requires frequent travel to various job sites across multiple states. It is a field position that involves working at locations as necessary.

Travel is expected and required. We prioritize local assignments that allow team members to return home each night, while remaining flexible and ready for opportunities wherever the market takes us.

What You'll Do

A successful Fiber Optic Splicer candidate must have knowledge of established fiber optic procedures and techniques, be familiar with a wide range of tools and equipment, and be able to read and understand prints/maps, safety rules, and operating instructions. Services may include performing inside wiring, cabling, OTDR testing, and maintenance services.

This is a skilled position requiring flexibility in hours, including occasional on‑call duties, night and weekend work.

  • Assist in fiber optic splicing
  • Safely operate mechanized equipment such as bucket trucks
  • Set up safety perimeter using signage, cones, and barriers
  • Flag traffic when required
  • Provide flexibility to work in multiple locations
  • Prepare splice locations, termination points, and install splice closures
  • Clean, maintain, stock, and secure assigned vehicle and equipment daily
  • Splice loose tube fiber
  • Splice ribbon fiber
  • Operate a bucket truck appropriately
  • Operate splicing equipment
  • Identify issues with fiber using red light
  • Construct proper splice cases
  • Place a mid‑sheath splice
  • Fill out audit sheets per location (per splice)
  • Test and troubleshoot fiber using an OTDR
  • Follow all safety rules and regulations
  • Update job completion sheet
  • Pull fiber when needed
  • Complete cut sheet
  • Perform pre‑trip vehicle inspection daily
  • Work night and various hours as required
Qualifications
  • Must pass a pre‑employment drug screen.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license or be willing and able to obtain one.
  • A good driving record is required.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment safely.
  • Basic knowledge of hand tools and equipment safety.
  • Effective communication skills with customers and employees.
  • Willingness to work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to climb telephone poles, work aloft, and climb poles up to 40 ft.
  • Able to lift or carry 50 lb. regularly without assistance.
  • Knowledge of fiber optic color codes and numbering.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Understanding of terminology used in fiber splicing.
  • Experience splicing fiber, including all necessary steps.
  • 1–3 years’ experience splicing fiber.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior fiber experience, preferably in the telecommunications industry.
  • Ability to perform all duties in fiber optic construction.
  • Willingness to travel.
Working Conditions

This full‑time hourly position requires working outdoors under various weather conditions, including extreme cold, rain, sleet, snow, humidity, high temperatures, and high wind. The work environment may vary throughout the day, with changes in terrain, traffic, urban or rural settings, and occasional exposure to natural gas or electrical shock. Moderate to loud noise levels may occur.

Physical Requirements

Stand for up to 12 hours at a time, tolerate extreme weather, speak and hear safety instructions, and perform tasks such as hand digging, lifting, standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching, crouching, and crawling. Lift 50 lb. regularly.
