About this Role

TRAVEL POSITION - Robinson Brothers Construction, LLC is seeking a skilled Horizontal Directional Driller to join our TRAVELING crew.

Our contracts span the Pacific Northwest and the West Coast, encompassing the western states.

We are looking for talented individuals who are enthusiastic and ready to travel to various job sites.

As part of your role, travel is expected and required. This is a field position, and you will be responsible for working at various sites as necessary, including locations in multiple states.

Job Summary

A Successful Directional Drill Locator/ Operator is specially trained and has expertise in locating for horizontal/directional drill rigs and product support equipment. This individual will be primarily responsible for the setup and completion of drilling variable-sized underground boreholes and pulling back the required conduit/pipe. As a Directional Driller/Equipment Operator, you are responsible for running a variety of directional drilling equipment;
Directional Drill, (Vermeer and/or Ditch Witch) Vac. Truck, Mud Truck, Excavator, Forklift, Dump truck, Locator, along with others not listed.

What You'll Do
  • Locate for Directional Drill for installation of underground conduit and fiber optic cable.
  • Ensure the safety of the public and other utilities underground facilities.
  • Operate Directional Drill.
  • Assist in potholing and remediation.
  • Assist with setting hand holes and completing tie-ins.
  • Ability to Read and Comprehend utility locates.
  • Set equipment up including the drill, water tanks, and grounding the machine.
  • Ability to properly formulate and mix drilling mud for the site conditions.
  • Ability to perform proper reaming and pull-back methods for existing conditions.
  • Oversee laborer's and/or crew members' work and monitor time usage.
  • Communicate with the Supervisor daily to turn in required reports (i.e., Bore logs, vehicle maintenance reports, crew time logs, etc.)
  • Follows specifications for the job and company policies.
  • Complies with safety procedures on and off the project site.
  • Strive for optimal production while working safely and performing quality work.
  • TRAVEL IS A MUST
What You'll Bring
  • Possess a valid driver’s license or be eligible and willing to obtain the required license for the position.
  • A good driving record is required.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment in a safe manner.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to hand tools and equipment in a safe manner.
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License is REQUIRED
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees, etc.
  • Willing and able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Able to lift/carry 50 lbs regularly
  • TRAVEL IS REQUIRED
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous construction experience, preferably in the telecommunication industry.

  • Knowledge of established Horizontal/Directional Drill Locator/ Operator procedures and techniques

  • Ability to perform Horizontal/Directional Drill Locator/ Operator procedures and duties.

Work Environment
