general

summary

this position, under direct supervision, coordinates environmental programs in compliance with established guidelines, manages permitting and compliance processes, provides engineering solutions to meet environmental needs, and offers leadership on environmental matters in alignment with company policies and procedures.

essential job accountabilities
  • calculate emissions for air permits and erosion control losses to ensure compliance with local environmental regulations and maintain operational integrity
  • interpret and apply land use permit requirements issued by counties and cities to support adherence to legal and environmental standards
  • develop and deliver environmental training programs for employees to promote compliance and enhance environmental awareness across the business unit
  • conduct field inspections and document corrective actions under supervisor direction to ensure timely resolution of compliance issues and maintain regulatory standards
  • execute environmental management system (ems) tasks, including legal compliance, objectives, and record maintenance, to support continuous improvement and regulatory adherence
  • collaborate with supervisors to implement the business unit’s environmental strategy, ensuring alignment with corporate sustainability goals
  • analyze technical problems and develop engineering solutions to meet environmental requirements and minimize operational risks
  • build and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies and clearly communicate the company’s compliance approach to foster trust and ensure regulatory cooperation
education
  • bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or a related engineering discipline, environmental science, occupational health and safety, geology, wildlife biology, hydrology, or a closely related field preferred.
work experience
  • 0-2 years of related work experience
knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • general understanding of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • ability to build and maintain effective relationships with regulatory agencies and represent granite in public forums
  • strong verbal communication skills, including the ability to speak clearly at public meetings and interact effectively with field personnel and management
  • proficient in technical writing for preparing inspection reports, memos, and other documents requiring clear descriptions and summaries
