ABOUT THE JOB:
The Senior Accountant has a broad range of corporate accounting responsibilities, including account analysis and reconciliations, foreign exchange accounting, lease accounting, monthly journal entries, and assistance with audits. The Senior Accountant will document and update policies and procedures for areas of responsibility, resolve accounting discrepancies, and cross-train with the General Ledger Accounting team. Responsibilities also include special projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:- Prepare accounting analysis, journal entries, and account reconciliations, including those related to foreign currency translation, hedge accounting, leases, workers compensation, intercompany and medical accruals.
- Administration of the Company’s foreign currency hedge program.
- Work with operations to obtain lease documentation and maintain accurate records for financial reporting.
- Review leases of low to moderate complexity for appropriate lease accounting treatment.
- Resolve accounting discrepancies.
- Provide assistance with the external financial audit and internal audits.
- Support the Company’s financial reporting function, including preparation of financial disclosure schedules.
- Support income tax provision and compliance preparation and filing process, including preparation of certain schedules.
- Oversee communication with tax jurisdictions to ensure accurate recordkeeping, timely reporting and to help resolve issues.
- Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with Company policies and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Document policies, procedures and workflow for assigned areas of responsibility. Maintain and update internal control procedures for areas.
- Lead special projects as assigned.
- Back-up responsibility for fixed asset accounting performed by the Senior Asset Accountant position.
- Back-up to Treasury support functions typically performed by the GL Accountant position, including daily cash reconciliation, positive pay, and borrowing administration.
- Provide training and cross-training to the General Ledger Accounting team.
- Develop training materials and present to operations personnel.
- Other duties as assigned by the Accounting Manager.
- Types of interactions are in-person discussions and meetings, phone calls, and emails.
- Daily interaction with other members of the Finance department.
- Moderate interaction with staff in other corporate departments, and staff at plant locations.
- Occasional interaction with external auditors, representatives of taxing jurisdictions, and bank representatives.
- Interaction typically relates to accounting transactions, of moderate complexity.
- Strong grasp of GAAP and technical accounting experience obtained through either audit or industry experience.
- Familiarity with internal controls.
- Strong organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task, monitor workflow to meet critical deadlines and project timetables, and adjust priorities.
- Highly detail oriented and efficient; seeks to continuously build efficiencies in workflows.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Highly proficient in Excel.
- SAP experience preferred.
- Able to work on complex tasks independently, and in a team environment.
- Able to clearly and concisely document workflows into a supportable work product.
- A positive attitude and desire to contribute to the success of the Company.
EXPERIENCE:
- BA/BS in Accounting or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience required.
- Accounting experience with a manufacturing company considered a plus.
- CPA preferred.
