Job Description Position Purpose summary

To ensure that the proper supervision and support is given to each CSC client as required by The Salvation Army, The Correctional Service of Canada and funding policies and procedures .

KEY Accountabilities
  • To liaise with the CRF Manager and other Belkin House staff on the upcoming arrival of new clients; to ensure a room and the intake documents are prepared; to file these appropriately
  • To intake new clients upon arrival, orienting him to all house rules, policies and procedures; introduce new client to staff and other residents; communicate about services available to clients while at Belkin House. To inventory clients belonging and medications and to secure any files or contraband the clients may have on arrival.
  • To effectively supervise a primary caseload of CSC clients; to conduct in‑house interviews with residents and to log these in the casework notes; to assist other caseworker's clients (secondary caseload) in their absence
  • To assist in the logging in and out of CSC clients; to encourage CRF worker and appropriate staff interaction in the ongoing monitoring and assessment of residents; to spot‑check residents whereabouts during the day and communicate the results of this in the log book, with other Correctional Ministry staff including the CSC RDO and Parole Officers
  • To log resident passes as authorized by the Parole
  • To assist in the logging in and out of CSC clients; to encourage CRF workers and appropriate staff interaction in the ongoing monitoring and assessment of residents; to spot‑check residents whereabouts during the day and communicate the results of this in the log book, with other Correctional Ministry staff including the CSC RDO and Parole Officers
  • To log resident passes as authorized by the Parole.
  • To liaise, as required, with Food Services to ensure that residents dietary needs are being communicated and accommodated
  • To maintain confidential resident files, sharing information only as it is required to ensure the safety of staff and other residents
  • To prepare resident case plans and reviews; to communicate these to the CRF Manager and Parole Officer; to assist residents in meeting plan objectives
  • To attend, as required, case conferences with residents and Parole Officers and to complete case conference notes on OMS.
  • To conduct room searches and room checks according to schedule or as necessary
  • To distribute funds to CSC residents as per guidelines
  • To properly store and record client medications
  • In the event of discharge, to pack, inventory and secure client effects including medications; to ensure that these are picked up by the proper authority designated by CSC; in the event of move‑out, to have the client sign off that his effects are taken by him.
  • To properly file all CSC documents in a secure location.
  • To communicate regularly with the CRF Manager on client accountability, resident concerns, spot‑checks and bed counts
  • To assist in logging in and out of residents; to provide information sharing that assists CRF Workers in the observation of relevant behavior patterns and appropriate logging of critical incidents and actions
  • To provide caseworker case plan support; to record relevant discussions and/or observations in the casework notes; to provide counselling as appropriate, and to record these discussions
