Overview
Plumber – Day Shift, within the Mechanical Maintenance Trades | Mechanical | Building Operations | Facilities. This is a CUPE 116 position (Staff - Union) with a salary range listed and defined compensation and benefits. The role reports to the Head/Sub Head Plumber within the Mech Systems & HVAC Trades and involves maintenance, repair and renovation of gas, air, water, and waste disposal systems and related plumbing infrastructure across University facilities.

Compensation: $6,774.00 - $7,226.00 CAD Monthly
Compensation and Benefits:
Salary: $81,288 - $86,712 (Annual Gross) | $41.69 - $44.47 per hour
Supplemental Pay Types:
Salary premium for Gas Fitting Ticket (B) of $1.75 per hour;
Opportunity for OT at Double Time (bankable for additional time off);
Evening/Weekend shift premiums when applicable
Schedule: Working nine day-shifts (6:37am to 3:30pm) over a two-week period;
Every second Friday or Monday off
Vacation Allotments: Year 1: 1.25 vacation days earned per month;
Year 2:
Three weeks of vacation;
Year 5:
Four weeks;
Year 8:
Five weeks;
Year 14-18:
One additional day per year;
Year 18:
Six weeks;
Every year:
Three additional vacation days between Christmas and New Years
Pension and Tuition: University Pension Contributions: 9.4% of gross pensionable earnings (basic salary). Eligibility for tuition credit/tuition waiver: 12 UG credits or equivalent in approved courses per 12-month period (transferable to eligible dependents).

Job Description SummaryUBC Building Operations provides comprehensive facilities maintenance, operations and renovation services for lands and buildings owned by the University of British Columbia. Trades are the heart and hands of Building Operations. The Trades units provide a wide range of services for the maintenance, repair and operation of all buildings on campus. Plumbers perform skilled plumbing work in the maintenance, repair, and renovation of gas, air, water, and waste disposal systems and the interior and exterior water mains and drainage systems throughout the University.
OrganizationalStatus
Plumbers report to the People & Process Manager, Mech Systems & HVAC Trades. Plumbers work both independently or with other plumbers and associated tradespeople, at the apprentice and journeyperson level. Plumbers receive daily work assignments and directions from the Head Plumber and Sub Head Plumber.
Work PerformedPerforms maintenance, repair and renovation work such as maintaining plumbing fixtures, backflow prevention devices, gas, air, water, fire protection systems and waste disposal systems. Handles low-risk asbestos or other hazardous insulation materials following UBC policy and procedures. Carries out repair on machinery and equipment, inspection tests, diagnoses defects, and takes remedial action or recommends solution. Assembles parts and fittings and joins them by soldering, brazing, gluing, screwing, calking, bolting and other methods.
Works in a correct and safe manner in accordance with safety standards and PPE requirements. Keeps current on preventative maintenance concepts, technology, and manufacturer/regulatory maintenance requirements. Responds to service requests and emergencies during normal and after hours. Uses tools and equipment appropriately and stores them safely. Prepares cost estimates and orders required materials. Follows oral and written instructions, work orders and drawings.
Maintains good housekeeping in the shop and on site. Ensures work is completed to requirements and specifications.
