** Job Description Summary
** Participating in, organizing and directing the work of an assigned area and/or crew of trades, such as, Electricians, Plumbers, Maintenance Mechanics, Carpenters, Painters and other skilled workers engaged in maintenance and installation work on Student Housing and Community Services (SHCS) facilities, costing jobs and ordering required materials. Is the Electrical Field Safety Representative (FSR) for SHCS buildings.

** Organizational Status
** Reports to the Trades Manager.

** Work Performed
** Performing preventative and breakdown maintenance. Troubleshooting, repair and installation of low and high voltage equipment and systems. Testing and repairing fire protection systems. Working in compliance with applicable codes, instructions, and safety regulations in accordance with work orders, drawings, documents and time schedules. Responding to trouble calls and emergencies during and outside normal work hours. Supervising, organizing and allocating the work of an assigned crew of trades, such as, Electricians, Plumbers, Maintenance Mechanics, Carpenters, Painters and other skilled workers.
Supervising and participating in training workers/apprentices as necessary. Dealing with day-to-day on-site problems by initiating appropriate actions to correct the situation. Preparing cost estimates for jobs and ordering required materials. Maintaining work function related records, such as, timekeeping, costing, tools, equipment, work assignments, preventative maintenance schedules and test inspection reports. Communicating with customers as required to ensure the efficient delivery of service.

Attending training and other workshops as required to maintain current knowledge of electrical and safety codes. Acting as Field Safety Representative, ensuring workplace compliance with the BC Safety Authority s Safety Standards Act. Performing inspections and signing permits as required. Ensuring that employees under his/her jurisdiction work in a correct and safe manner and in accordance with all normal safety standards and practices and university and departmental policies and procedures.
