Position: Facilities Power Engineer (Casual)

Facilities Power Engineer (2 casual roles)

We are looking for experienced Facilities Power Engineers to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot mechanical, heating, cooling, and pressure systems across the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority plants and facilities. These casual roles are full‑time on site with 24/7 coverage.

What You Do
  • Operate and monitor all plant and facility heating, cooling, mechanical, and pressure systems, ensuring safe, efficient, continuous 24/7 performance.
  • Use building automation, controls, meters, and sensors to analyze weather, occupancy, and historical energy trends to optimize energy efficiency and occupant comfort.
  • Track and document system efficiency and operational trends to support performance analysis and continuous improvement.
  • Respond to alarms, service calls, tickets, and operational disruptions to support emergency response and maintain occupant safety.
  • Maintain detailed operational records, shift logs, and system adjustments to ensure continuity.
  • Maintain, service, inspect, and repair mechanical, heating, cooling, and pressure systems.
  • Conduct routine and detailed inspections to detect wear, performance degradation, equipment faults, excessive vibration, and safety or regulatory compliance issues.
  • Perform preventative maintenance following PM schedules, task checklists, manufacturer specifications, and industry best practice.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot system issues such as equipment failures, pressure or temperature inconsistencies, flow restrictions, actuator or valve malfunctions.
  • Complete corrective repairs within scope and escalated complex issues.
  • Monitor inventory of tools, consumables, and parts and coordinate reordering as needed.
  • Support capital and operational projects involving mechanical, heating, cooling, and pressure system upgrades, replacements, and retrofits.
  • Collaborate with engineers, consultants, and contractors to ensure compliance with codes, drawings, specifications, and best practices.
  • Review and interpret technical documents such as blueprints, schematics, and specifications to ensure accurate installations and integration with existing systems.
  • Identify and recommend opportunities to enhance system performance, energy efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
What You Bring
  • Completion of a high school diploma, 4th Class Power Engineering certification, and a minimum of 3 years post‑certification experience in building operations.
  • Proficiency in operating plant systems, equipment, tools, and building automation systems.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite and maintenance management systems. Formal training or certification in energy management and efficiency is considered an asset.
  • Dependable, safety‑conscious individual with strong technical knowledge of mechanical, heating, cooling, and pressure systems.
  • Self‑motivated able to work independently and collaboratively in an efficiency‑focused operational environment, exercising sound judgment and initiative.
  • Physically capable of performing demanding tasks, including confined spaces, heights, and near water.
  • Strong problem‑solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive approach to preventive maintenance, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.

Working Environment

This position requires work in diverse environments, including exposure to noise, odors, dust, fumes, and varying weather conditions. Tasks may require working at heights, over water, or in confined spaces, with occasional heavy lifting and potential exposure to unsanitary conditions. Shift work is required to maintain uninterrupted 24/7 coverage. Operators are expected to provide coverage for extra hours on occasion when unplanned absences or urgent repairs dictate.
