The Laboratory Supervisor oversees daily lab operations and supports staff to ensure accurate, timely results. This role provides leadership, ensures compliance with safety and quality standards, and maintains efficient workflows and deadlines.

Responsibilities

Ability to perform and mentor on all aspects of Quality Control and Standard Operating Procedures and provide technical assistance for the lab

Perform laboratory analysis and technician duties as necessary

Responsible for promoting responsible and ethical work practices in the laboratory

Responsible for staffing and progression of lab team including setting objectives, evaluating performance

Maintain all lab instrumentation; ensure all instrumentation is operational

Ensure proper supplies are organized and in stock for regular laboratory operations

Ensure laboratory turnaround times are being met

Assist in root cause analysis and provides recommendation to Lab Management

Communicate lab daily activities and recommendation for improvement to lab management

Proactively participate in SRED projects including development of research project ideas annually. Ensure proper completion, tracking and documentation of SRED projects

Responsible for health and safety in the laboratory.

Ensure all SOPs are being followed, PPE is supplied and being used correctly

Report, review and authorize test results, as required

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Technical Diploma / degree in Science or equivalent experience required

5+years hands on laboratory experience in a senior role

Experience with ICP-MS required. Experience with GC-MS, GC-FID considered an asset.

Instrumentation operation and troubleshooting skills required

Ability to problem solve, coach, organize

Knowledge of full laboratory processes

Advanced Computer Skills including MS Office and Agilent Chemstation

Time management, multi-taking, communication skills, prioritization of workflow

Ability to work in a positive manner in a fast paced environment
