Project Coordinator, Indigenous Health Research
This position will be responsible for day-to-day coordination of several Tri-Agency-funded research studies focused on Indigenous health and wellness, led by Dr. Gabrielle Legault. This position works closely with a multidisciplinary team of researchers and partners from UBC Okanagan, UBC Vancouver, Foundry, and Indigenous community organizations. Current projects include a study focused on health research standards within urban Indigenous contexts, and projects conducted in collaboration with Foundry BC focused on Indigenous data governance and Indigenous youth experiences.
Organizational Status
This position will report to the Principal Investigator (PI) Dr. Gabrielle Legault.
Work Performed
Coordinates day-to-day research activities, including implementing project processes, managing data collection and analysis, data management and storage, and working with community partners.
Prepares and submits research ethics applications, including consent forms, initial submissions, renewals and amendments to the Behavioural Research Ethics Board.
Develops, revises, and monitors project timelines and ensures milestones and deliverables are met.
Identifies and recruits study participants.
Develops meeting agendas, facilitates meetings, and takes meeting minutes for research and community engagement activities.
Supports the development, orientation, and ongoing coordination of project advisory groups.
Provides orientation, mentorship, and support to undergraduate and graduate student trainees, including providing feedback on their work.
Assists with coordinating scoping reviews and literature reviews, including working with students.
Supports knowledge dissemination including written reports, summaries, and oral presentations, and organizing gatherings, workshops and meetings.
Contributes to the content and writing of manuscripts and the preparation and revision of research publications.
Coordinates fiscal duties, including monitoring and managing day-to-day expenditures within the projects.
Coordinates and contributes to the writing and submission of grant applications.
Fosters and maintains strong relationships with project collaborators internal and external to the university.
Performs other related duties as required.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Working under the direction of the Principal Investigator, this position performs a variety of somewhat complex activities conducted within established procedures and policies. Given the relational nature of Indigenous health research, errors in judgment may result in delays to research activities, disruptions to project timelines, or harm to relationships with Indigenous communities, partner organizations, research collaborators, and funding agencies.
Supervision
This position works under the guidance of the Principal Investigator, Research Manager, or their designate. This role requires the ability to work collaboratively and independently with minimal supervision. This position will alert the Principal Investigator or Research Manager regarding and emerging issues, risks or anticipated challenges as they arise.
Minimum QualificationsUndergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
Minimum of two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
Graduate degree in a health, social science, arts, or education discipline.
Demonstrated experience working in respectful partnership with Indigenous Peoples and communities.
Applied knowledge of Indigenous research methodologies, cultural protocols, and community-specific practices.
Knowledge of Indigenous data governance frameworks, including OCAP©, Métis Research Principles, and Inuit Research Principles.
Experience applying Indigenous data governance principles throughout the research lifecycle.
Demonstrated commitment to ethical, community-engaged, and reciprocal research practices.
