A Lab Supervisor position is available in the Rossi lab ( ) in the School of Biomedical Engineering (SBME) at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Our lab’s goal is to understand the mechanisms underpinning tissue regeneration and degeneration and use this knowledge to design therapeutic strategies for muscular dystrophy, volumetric muscle loss, and cardiovascular disease. The candidate is expected to have lab management experience as well as technical skills to carry out molecular and cellular experiments as part of an active research project.

Reports directly to the principal investigator, Dr. Fabio Rossi. The Lab Supervisor will manage all facets of daily operations, maintenance and finances of a research laboratory, including overseeing and managing workload assignments for junior staff and students in the laboratory.
Work Performed Lab Supervisory Duties- Responsible for the daily operations of the research laboratory, including maintaining laboratory equipment, vendor account lists, supply inventories, and overseeing equipment repairs.
- Maintains and enforces lab cleanliness and organization by monitoring common lab spaces, cleaning, organizing group cleaning activities, ensuring responsible parties are aware of their duties, coordinating freezer thaws, etc.
- Sources new suppliers to account for supply chain issues and to search out better pricing as well as higher quality products.
- Supports the development and documentation of laboratory operating procedures, such as SOPs for proper instrument use and a guidebook for new laboratory members (e.g., pipette calibrations, LN2 tank usage).
- Communicates lab safety guidelines to lab members, ensuring all safety regulations and training are met, including working with UBC's Safety & Risk Services (SRS) as needed.
- Schedules and monitors waste removal by ensuring proper labeling and corresponding with other parties involved in the process (e.g., chemical, biological).
- Participates in the UBC SBME local safety team.
- Acts as liaison with SBME building staff on operational issues.
