Job SummaryThe Advanced Therapeutics Manufacturing Facility (ATMF) is part of Canada’s Immuno-Engineering and Biomanufacturing Hub (CIEBH), a UBC-led national research hub that aims to align the critical mass of immune-engineering expertise with biomanufacturing and public health strengths concentrated in BC. It is also a key part of the BC MS Cell Therapies Translational Research Network, with the goal of accelerating novel cell therapies for neurological and autoimmune diseases.
The ATMF, when operational, will be a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) biomanufacturing core facility to produce advanced therapeutics – such as cells, mRNA vaccines, and ancillary plasmid DNA – essential for early-phase clinical trials, addressing current health challenges, and strengthening Canada’s pandemic preparedness.
The Research Manager will contribute to the development and management of a wide scope of projects and contracts, including multi-investigator, multi-institutional, partnered, and industry projects. The Research Manager works at both the pre-award/contract and post award/contract stages. At the pre-award stage, they identify project and funding opportunities, and work with stakeholders to develop initiatives and seek funding. Relevant ATMF stakeholders include, but are not limited to, Faculty at UBC and other post-secondary institutions, health authorities, and industry.
For post award projects and contracts, they manage progress, budgets and lead reporting back to funders and other relevant stakeholders. The Research Manager communicates and coordinates with ATMF staff to monitor and adjust milestones and deliverables.
The position is based at the ATMF Process Development lab at the UBC Vancouver Campus. Travel will be required between multiple laboratory sites, including the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute and the BC Cancer Research Institute.
Work Performed Pre-award activities- Manages the preparation of grant applications on behalf of the ATMF Project Lead, Co-Lead and in collaboration with other partners. Provides strategic input into the proposal drafts and design, develops research plans, and develops budgets, as well as supporting other appropriate sections of the application. Programs may include Genome BC, Genome Canada, Canada Foundation for Innovation, Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council, Canadian Institute for Advanced Research, Western Economic Diversification, and other UBC, local, provincial, federal and international programs.
- Proactively identifies and analyzes upcoming funding competitions and provides key recommendations, such as deadlines and budgetary parameters, to faculty members regarding competitiveness, alignment, and strategic positioning.
- Expands the ATMF project portfolio through active networking and outreach to identify new multi-investigator, multi-institutional, and industry-partnered projects.
