JOB SUMMARY
The Specialty Pharma Nurse - Registered Nurse, under the direction of the Specialty Pharma Supervisor and/or Specialty Pharma Nurse Manager, delivers and monitors specialized infusion, injectable or oral pharmacological treatments in the home and/or clinic setting. The infusion nurse is responsible for monitoring the patient for infusion related reactions (intervening as required), accurately documenting the procedure, and submitting reports in a timely manner.
The Specialty Pharma Nurse - Registered Nurse is expected to maintain effective communication with the Specialty Nursing Supervisor and/or Specialty Pharma Nurse Manager to ensure patient safety and satisfaction. Specialized pharmacological training will be provided. This career offers opportunities to develop a specialty in infusion services, attend conferences, and participate in clinical trials. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develop and review individualized nursing care plans.
• Conduct patient health assessments and medication teaching.
• Obtain IV access through peripheral or central line (PICC, IVAD, etc.).
• Prepare and administer specialized intravenous or injectable treatments.
• Provide patient care using observation, assessment, nursing diagnosis, counseling, health teaching, and adverse event reporting.
• Perform routine nursing duties in accordance with policies and provincial standards.
• Provide patient-centered care based on care plans or medical directives.
• Perform specialized nursing procedures with recognized training and current competencies.
• Maintain role-specific medication and pharmacovigilance training.
• Observe and document patient conditions.
• Report and document adverse events per pharmacovigilance requirements.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Graduated from an accredited nursing program with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent.
- Current registration and good standing with provincial nursing regulatory body.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required for clinic role.
- Chemotherapy – Biotherapy course completion is an asset. If not possessed, certification must be obtained; training will be on the candidate's own time.
Experience
- Experience in acute care and/or with specialty pharmaceuticals.
- Home care experience is an asset.
- Critical care, infusion clinic, or oncology experience preferred.
- Exceptional peripheral IV skills; experience with central lines (IVAD, PICC) is an asset.
