Summer Long Camp Nurse

Location:

Vancouver, BC

Rate of Pay: $231.06/day (6 days per week)
Contract position from May – August 2026.

The Canadian Cancer Society’s Camp Goodtimes provides children and youth affected by cancer with an unforgettable overnight summer camp experience in a medically supervised, safe and supportive environment. The summer long nurse works with the Medical Clinical Coordinator, medical team, and leadership team to ensure the safety of campers and provides consistency of medical processes throughout the summer.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Acquaint with the Health Care Facility (Med Shed) and the camp and support training of weekly medical teams – emergency equipment, phone, fire and earthquake drill, missing child procedure, waterfront accident, procedure for sending a camper home or to hospital.
  • Perform treatments and follow procedures as required within scope of practice and in accordance with BC Children’s Hospital policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with the Clinical Coordinator regarding any exceptional occurrences or serious issues.
  • Help maintain on‑going stock inventory.
  • Behave in a sensitive, responsible, mature manner at all times and be a positive role model for campers – demonstrate leadership, initiative, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude.
  • Communicate with volunteers and staff to ensure the safety and well‑being of the campers.
  • Ensure all participant, volunteer, and staff health and medical information is available and ready for use during registration and at camp.
  • Coordinate health screening of all camp attendees upon arrival to camp.
  • Assist in set‑up and take‑down of the Med Shed and its supplies/equipment at both camp locations.
  • Ensure campers are safely picked up and signed out by a family member or designate.
  • Ensure that each camper has medications returned to them and that any problems or issues that occurred at camp are discussed with the parent(s) or guardian.
  • Maintain camper confidentiality at all times.
  • Contribute to our culture of diversity, inclusion, belonging and equity (DIBE) by ensuring that all staff feel represented, valued, and heard across all aspects of their identity.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of pediatric cancer including diagnoses, treatment, and side effects (long and short term).
  • Knowledge of how a pediatric cancer diagnosis impacts the child, their siblings, and their family as a whole.
  • Knowledge of oncological emergencies and their treatments.
  • Knowledge of general camp medicine.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with children and volunteers.
  • Previous overnight summer camp experience an asset.
  • Experience in general pediatrics or emergency an asset.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR‑C.
  • Current BCCNM nursing license.
  • APHON chemotherapy and biotherapy certification an asset.
  • Central Line certification an asset.
  • Criminal Record Search including vulnerable sector check (once hired).
  • Must provide proof of up‑to‑date childhood immunizations.
  • Must provide proof of a primary series of the COVID‑19 vaccines as well as a booster within 12 months of their camp start date.
  • English is required;
    French/Bilingualism an asset.
