Providence Health Care is now accepting applications for nurses to join their harm reduction-driven team on Road to Recovery's (R2R) acute detox units l's Hospital, with both permanent part-time and casual positions available. The R2R initiative strives to better address treatment of substance use issues by providing the right support to each client at the right time. People who use substances deserve the same access to evidence-based care as anyone else, free from stigma.
As with all of our services at Providence Health Care, R2R delivers care in a way that strives to be person-centred, trauma-informed and culturally safe. Launched in 2023, the R2R supports clients at every phase of their wellness and recovery journey by coordinating seamless care, even if there are setbacks or relapses along the way.
The R2R continuum of services in operation today includes 25 detox beds located l's Hospital, 20 transitional care beds for clients awaiting space in a treatment program or long-term housing, and the Aftercare Team, which launched in Fall 2024, providing outreach aftercare in the community. The initiative is rolling out in steps, with additional treatment services to come soon.
Your responsibilities will include:
Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, the Staff Nurse, assesses, identifies, plans, implements and evaluates the nursing care required to assist patients/residents in meeting their physical, social, spiritual and psychological needs using an established framework for nursing practice. Develops, implements, evaluates and revises the plan of care. Incorporates individual and/or group teaching into the care plan and nursing interventions and/or makes referrals to other identified resources.
Supports other nurses and health care professionals by collegially sharing information and demonstrating procedures. The Staff Nurse works within an interdisciplinary clinical framework in accordance with the BCCNM Standards and consistent with the mission, vision and values and established protocols of Providence Health Care.
Education
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures appropriate for the area of service. Ability to work as a member in an interdisciplinary team.
- Ability to apply decision making and analytical skills.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.

- Competitive salary: $41.42 - $55.91 CAD per hour, depending on experience
