PositionSummary
The Managing Director is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the long‑term sustainability of the synagogue. This position works in close partnership with the Board of Directors, Rabbi, staff, and congregants to ensure the synagogue thrives as a spiritual, cultural, and communal hub. The Managing Director’s key responsibilities include fundraising and development, staff management, board liaison and the execution of strategic priorities.
Key Responsibilities Fundraising & Development- Develop and implement an annual fundraising strategy, including major gifts, grants, events, and donor stewardship.
- Cultivate relationships with current and prospective donors.
- Support Board‑led fundraising efforts and synagogue campaigns.
- Supervise and support a small team of staff including the program & Hebrew school director and administrator.
- Provide oversight of the synagogue’s operations.
- Monitor the synagogue’s operating budget in collaboration with the Treasurer and accountant.
- Collaborate closely with the Rabbi and lay leadership to implement the synagogue’s mission and vision.
- Serve as the liaison between professional staff and the Board of Directors.
- Prepare reports and materials for board meetings; attend and contribute to board and committee meetings.
- Help implement policies and strategic goals set by the Board.
- Strengthen communications systems and processes.
- Develop a community‑based communications plan.
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all members.
- Support programs, committees, lifecycle events in collaboration with the staff team.
- Develop and implement membership and volunteer people processes and committees.
- Other duties as appropriate and assigned by the Board of Directors.
- Strong skills in fundraising, communications, and membership engagement.
- Proven leadership experience, ideally in a nonprofit, synagogue, or community organization.
- Knowledge of Jewish customs, culture, and lifecycle events; familiarity with the Conservative Jewish movement is an asset.
- Exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency in office software (e.g., Microsoft Office, CRM/database systems); experience with synagogue management software an asset.
- A collaborative, compassionate, and proactive working style.
- Position is based onsite in West Vancouver with occasional evening and weekend responsibilities tied to community events.
- Salary range $80,000 - $90,000
