Our client is a well-established and highly respected non-profit organisation based in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, dedicated to supporting and empowering vulnerable women and children living in extreme poverty. Through drop-in centres and emergency shelters, they provide essential services and specialized support to over 1,000 individuals daily. About the Role
Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Director of Finance is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the organisation — both at a day-to-day and strategic level. You will be an active member of the leadership team, working closely with the Board of Directors and Finance Committee to ensure financial integrity, compliance, and accountability across all programs and funding streams.
You will also oversee and support the Manager of Finance.
Responsibilities
Lead month-end, year-end, and audit processes, liaising with external auditors and ensuring timely delivery of all required documentationPrepare the annual Operational Budget for Board approval and maintain multiple program budgets with variance reportingComplete financial reports as required by funding agencies, contribution agreements, and grant requirementsSupport the Fund Development Team and Program Managers in developing budgets for program proposals and work plansOversee tax compliance including GST, charity returns, and CRA filings specific to charitable organisationsDevelop and oversee payroll processes, ensuring accuracy prior to submissionManage relationships with banking and investment partnersAdminister Group Benefits and Municipal Pension Plan (MPP) contributions in collaboration with HRProvide financial leadership on building leases, capital improvement projects, and equipment agreementsSupervise and support the Bookkeeper to ensure services are delivered in accordance with established financial practicesDevelop Board and staff training opportunities related to organisational financesRequirements
CPA designation with 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a leadership roleMinimum 2 years of accounting experience within a non-profit or charitable organisationExperience handling government contracts and fluency in CRA guidelines specific to charities, grants, donations, and fundraisingStrong knowledge of varied revenue streams including grant funding and provincial/federal restricted fundsProficiency across accounting systems with a willingness to adopt new softwareStrong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess and manage riskWorking knowledge of issues impacting women in the DTES including gender-based violence, mental health, homelessness, and addictionsAbility to work within a feminist analysis and anti-oppression frameworkConflict resolution skills and crisis intervention experienceAbility to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment serving a diverse communityValid First Aid certificate required; criminal record check requiredCompensation & Benefits
Salary: $90,000 – $113,000 based on experienceHealthcare:
