The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Garden Society of Vancouver is a non-profit cultural institution dedicated to fostering understanding and mutual appreciation among Vancouver’s diverse communities, with a focus on classical Chinese arts and culture. The Society operates the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, a museum and popular tourist attraction located in Vancouver’s historic Chinatown.
About the PositionReporting to the Garden’s Executive Director, the Manager of Education and Administration is integral to sustaining the Garden as a vibrant cultural, educational, and community resource.
The Manager of Education and Administration provides leadership and operational oversight for the Garden’s educational programming and administrative functions. This role is responsible for developing and delivering high-quality, culturally authentic educational experiences while ensuring effective day-to-day administrative operations, including the organization’s visitor services department. The Manager plays a key role in advancing the Garden’s mission to foster intercultural understanding and appreciation of classical Chinese culture, philosophy, and horticulture.
This position is based in our Vancouver Chinatown office.

Responsibilities- Design, coordinate, and evaluate diverse educational, cultural, and wellness programs, including school tours, public lectures, workshops, cultural demonstrations, and seasonal events.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive education strategy aligned with the Garden’s mission and strategic plan.
- Build partnerships with schools, universities, cultural organizations, and community groups.
- Oversee curriculum development, ensuring historical and cultural accuracy rooted in classical Chinese traditions.
- Supervise education, programming, and other relevant departmental staff.
- Seek funding opportunities, prepare grant applications, and manage program budgets.
- Supervise visitor services staff, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director on daily administrative operations, including scheduling, office systems, and policy implementation.
- Support financial administration in coordination with the Executive Director.
- Develop and maintain internal procedures to improve organizational efficiency and compliance.
- Assist with human resources functions, including onboarding and staff development.
- Support marketing and communications efforts by contributing program content and strategic insights.
- Promote intercultural dialogue and community accessibility through inclusive programming initiatives.
- Interact with diverse audiences, including school groups, seniors, tourists, and community stakeholders.
- Prepare financial and performance reporting for committees, sponsors, and senior management as needed.
- Establish and maintain relationships with external stakeholders and represent the Society as required.
- Collaborate with other managers to provide leadership and guidance to staff.
- Perform other duties as required to meet organizational goals or as instructed by the Executive Director.
- 2 to 5 years of progressive experience in a related capacity and discipline, such as education program management, cultural institutions, museums, or non-profit administration.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Arts Administration, Museum Studies, Cultural Studies, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation abilities; vigorous attention to detail; initiative-taking; and exceptional time and organizational management.
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and motivation to a team.
