Overview

The Association of Neighbourhood Houses of British Columbia (ANHBC) is a provincial non-profit organization that operates more than 500 community-based programs and services throughout the Lower Mainland. ANHBC and its member Houses and Camp serve more than 100,000 people annually. Programs span early childhood education and childcare, seniors’ services, counselling, settlement and newcomer supports, housing, food security, youth programming, and community development.

ANHBC has a grassroots ethos focused on equity and social justice, and provides strategic leadership and centralized services to support its Houses and Camp.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will lead ANHBC at a pivotal moment as the current CEO plans to depart in spring 2026. The incoming CEO will steward a leadership transition while shaping ANHBC’s future direction.

Responsibilities

The CEO is responsible for providing overall leadership and direction to ANHBC, ensuring long-term sustainability, financial health, and strategic impact.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Set vision and strategy in collaboration with the Board; support effective governance and ensure alignment with ANHBC’s purpose and values.
  • Lead ANHBC Central Services and provide oversight to the Executive Directors of the neighbourhood houses and camp, balancing a consent-driven, grassroots culture with clarity, accountability, and organizational agility.
  • Oversee operations and financial stewardship, including resource allocation, risk management, and reporting.
  • Serve as ANHBC’s primary ambassador and advocate; strengthen relationships with governments, funders, Indigenous partners, sector peers, and community stakeholders.
  • Advance the profile and influence of the Neighbourhood House movement and identify opportunities for collaboration, growth, and innovation.
  • Navigate complexity, lead change thoughtfully, and cultivate trust-based relationships across a diverse network of stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • Values-driven, relational, and strategic leader with senior executive experience in a large, complex, community-based or federated organization; ideally with a strong grassroots culture.
  • Proven ability to work with a Board of Directors, lead through influence, and align diverse perspectives toward shared outcomes.
  • Strong communication skills; comfortable representing the organization publicly and advocating for issues aligned with ANHBC’s mission (including equity, community wellbeing, and Truth and Reconciliation).
  • Sound business and financial acumen, experience navigating funding complexity, and ability to balance long-term vision with operational discipline.
  • Experience guiding organizations through strategic transformation with empathy, humility, leadership courage, transparency, listening, and trust.
Benefits and Equity

Competitive benefits package including group medical and pension; salary range from $210,000 - $230,000 depending on skills and experience level. ANHBC is an equal opportunity employer and values equity, diversity, and inclusion. We encourage applications from Indigenous, Black, and People of Colour (IBPOC), individuals with disabilities, and members of LGBTQIA2S+ communities.
