Position Summary

The Global Marketing Director leads the global marketing function – the Strategic Market Planning Team (SMPT) – within Methanex’s Marketing & Logistics (M&L) business unit. This role transforms SMPT from an established marketing intelligence team into a strategic function that shapes global marketing and pricing strategies.

The Director supports M&L leadership to drive the global marketing strategy, setting the strategic agenda. The incumbent will oversee global market intelligence at the strategic level, coordinate competitor strategies and translate global market and industry insights into actionable recommendations. The Director also works with regional Product Managers and guides the Global Marketing Manager in building M&L’s center of excellence for market fundamentals, insight generation and follow-up.

Position Responsibilities

Strategic leadership

  • Define and lead the M&L global marketing strategy, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and regional execution
  • Lead the Global Marketing sub-function, driving collaboration and alignment with the Global Commercial Leadership Team (GCLT) and Global Supply Chain Team (GSCT) in developing and executing M&L strategies
  • Translate strategic marketing topics – including competitor strategies – into actionable business recommendations through close collaboration with GCLT and GSCT
  • Shape the long-term methanol market and industry outlook to inform and support corporate strategy development
Market intelligence & insights
  • Oversee global market intelligence at a strategic level, leveraging insights from GMM and regional teams to identify value-creation opportunities
  • Translate macroeconomic, geopolitical, and industry trends into actionable strategies
  • Provide executive-level communications and recommendations to internal stakeholders and senior leadership
Pricing strategy
  • Drive global pricing strategies and identify revenue-enhancing opportunities by integrating market fundamentals with regional commercial considerations
  • Provide leadership to regional Product Managers and collaborate closely with GCLT to ensure pricing strategies are aligned and effective
Team leadership & coordination
  • Provide leadership for SMPT, setting priorities and ensuring delivery of strategic objectives
  • Guide and support the Global Marketing Manager in building a center of excellence for market analytics, collaborating with the regional teams
  • Position SMPT as a strategic think tank, influencing Product Managers and shaping global perspectives
  • Foster collaboration across regions to ensure consistent global messaging and execution
Stakeholder engagement
  • Engage with regional stakeholders to align global strategies with regional execution
  • Ensure timely, consistent messaging on market movements and key industry topics across regions and organizational levels
  • Deliver clear, concise, and impactful market communications to corporate functions and senior leadership, including materials for Executive Leadership and the Board
Position Qualifications
  • 10+ years’ relevant experience, including senior marketing or commercial leadership roles within global commodity or energy sectors
  • Deep understanding of global supply/demand dynamics, competitor strategies, and market economics
  • Exceptional strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to translate complex insights into actionable business strategies
  • Proven ability to lead and influence across a global matrix organization, fostering alignment and collaboration
  • Excellent communication skills, with a track record of engaging and influencing senior stakeholders internally and externally

The expected hiring salary range for Vancouver-based candidates of this position is CAD $,000. The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and will consider internal equity.
