Position Overview

The Lead Rental Technician (LRT) serves as the subject matter experts in large equipment (LE) operation and repair. The LRTs are responsible for: ensuring LE rental readiness, providing LE technical expertise to customers and store Tool Rental Centre (TRC) associates, performing general maintenance and repair of rental fleet in assigned stores. LRTs must plan and coordinate their day by balancing the priorities of the rental business objectives, TRC store location’s LE maintenance and repair needs;

while executing on the processes, behaviors, and expectations for meeting rental standards and customer’s needs. The LRT must uphold The Home Depot’s core values and project a positive image. While maintaining a high level of professionalism, following The Home Depot’s safety policies and procedures are critical to performing their role as lead Rental Technician. Each associate has the responsibility of providing a safe working environment by following all safety policies & standards.

Key Responsibilities Preventative Maintenance and Repairs
  • Responsible for maintaining a fleet of rental equipment at store and company shop locations, and customer job sites. Ensure fleet inventory accuracy and GPS system is operational, with 3 points of security on all towable equipment.
  • Complete major repairs for LE fleet in assigned store locations. Diagnose, maintain, and repair all components of the equipment/trailer, including gas and diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, fuel systems, and brake systems.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and order parts within 48 hours of a tool being placed on the Down List. Notify Regional Rental Manager (RRM) of any delays.
Daily responsibilities and expectations
  • Lead Rental Technicians are responsible for fostering a culture of customer service & support and should GET involved with TRC associates to provide the solutions our rental customers need to successfully complete their projects.
  • Obtains parts needed for repairs and while maintaining timely and accurate parts inventory.
  • Assists with equipment deployment, deliveries and auctions as required.
  • Maintain vehicle compliance in accordance with company, provincial regulations and Ministry of Transportation guidelines and maintain & certify accurate Electronic Logging Device (ELD - Samsara), Hours of Service (HOS) driver logs/vehicle inspections and vehicle documentation.
  • Deploys new equipment to store locations, including performing pre-delivery inspections (PDI), delivering to the store.
  • Maintains accurate fleet inventory and transfer equipment between locations.
  • Communicate clearly, both verbal and written, partnering with store TRC associates, teammates, and customers.
  • Coordinate with RRM to provide training and support to Store TRCs on LE standards operating procedures (SOP) and best practices.
  • Respond to customer service calls by responding to emails with relevant status updates, coordinating with customer on facilitating repair, and arriving on-site within 24 hours.
  • Check in with RRM at beginning and end of day.
Documentation
  • Utilize equipment reporting to formulate efficient service strategies with Mobile Service Technicians (MSTs) to ensure timely completion of all open RSN tickets, repairs, store/lift Inspections, PMs, and Safety Campaigns/Bulletins and communicate prioritization to RRM.
  • Utilizes company technology platform to document all work performed on equipment, including labor and parts.
  • Lay out workflow process prioritizing key action items to improve efficiency.
  • Communicate any LE rental status updates to store TRC associates and ensure work orders are completed in D365 including documentation for all parts and repairs.
Safety Compliance
  • Work in accordance with all safety protocols by following all Home Depot policies, such as:
