Overview
Clyde & Co has an opening for an associate lawyer with experience in general insurance and professional indemnity to join the insurance litigation group. As a lawyer at our Firm, you will be involved in all aspects of litigation including mediations, arbitrations, trials and appeals, in a broad scope of general litigation matters, with a focus on commercial disputes. You will have the opportunity of working in an entrepreneurial atmosphere and as part of a collegial team, all the while further developing your career.
Compensation range: $125,000 - $145,000 - $165,000
Key Responsibilities- Providing legal analysis and advice in the area of general litigation matters, working with senior lawyers and partners in those sectors.
- Drafting pleadings, motion materials and factums, as well as pre-trial memorandums and mediation memorandums.
- Conducting research and providing legal analysis.
- Preparing correspondence to counsel opposite and clients.
- Maintaining relations with the clients.
- Reviewing documents in preparation for litigation.
- Preparing for and attending examinations for discovery and mediations.
- Appearing in court, independently or with senior counsel, to argue motions and attend pre-trials.
- Assisting with or conducting solo preparations and attending independently or with senior counsel at trials or other adjudicative hearings.
- Attending B.C. or other Canadian Bar Association events for professional and business development opportunities.
- Performing certain tasks related to practice management.
- Developing overall skills in an ongoing fashion.
- Meeting other related business needs or priorities as they may arise from time to time.
- Graduate from a recognized university / law school and qualified to practice law in the Province of British Columbia (member in good standing with the B.C. Bar).
- Three to five years of post-qualification experience.
- Experience in general insurance and professional indemnity (private practice or in-house) with a focus on general litigation.
- Experience in coverage analysis under insurance policies is an asset.
- Excellent legal writing and communication skills.
- Sound judgement, analytical ability and creativity in problem solving.
- Ability to develop strategies, present a clear plan to the client, and communicate instructions rigorously and precisely.
- Proven advocacy talent and high integrity.
- Strong interpersonal skills and an entrepreneurial spirit with interest in building client relationships.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
