Nature & Scope
Reporting to the Director, IT Operations and Cybersecurity, the Network and Security Specialist is responsible for maintaining the stability, security, and efficiency of the organization’s IT network and security infrastructure. This role monitors, analyzes, and resolves network and security issues, implements robust security controls, and strengthens the organization’s overall cybersecurity posture. The Specialist plays a key role in safeguarding sensitive data, ensuring regulatory compliance, and enabling reliable connectivity to support business operations.
Major Responsibilities- in this position, you will:
Monitor, manage, and maintain network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, VPN, firewalls, wireless systems, and cloud connectivity.Proactively identify and address potential issues through continuous monitoring of network and security systems.Respond to security incidents promptly, including after hours emergencies as needed.Implement and maintain preventive security controls such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection, and cloud security measures.Perform regular security assessments, vulnerability scans, and remediation activities to mitigate risks.Analyze and monitor security logs, events, and alerts using SIEM tools to detect and respond to threats.Assist with network upgrades, patching, and configuration changes to ensure optimal performance and security.Maintain accurate documentation of network topology, security policies, and incident reports.Collaborate with vendors and service providers to resolve issues and ensure secure service delivery.Ensure compliance with security standards, frameworks, and regulatory requirements (e.g., CIS, CISA, PCI-DSS, ).Provide technical expertise to IT projects, integrating network and security considerations into design and implementation.Adapt to evolving cybersecurity threats while ensuring system uptime, performance, and compliance.Qualification-you bring:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in network administration and IT security operations.Strong understanding of networking protocols and architecture.Proven experience with modern cloud security tools such as CASB, SWG, SSE and Zero Trust Network Access.Proven experience with firewalls, IDS/IPS, endpoint security solutions, and SIEM platforms.Familiarity with cloud networking and security in Microsoft Azure.Industry certifications in Microsoft Azure, CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or CEH are considered an asset.Experience in incident response, vulnerability management, and working within regulatory compliance frameworks preferred.Successful candidate will be required to provide 2 satisfactory referencesSuccessful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record check with a Vulnerable sector search issued no later than six (6) months preceding the start date.About YMCA BC:
