Electronic Arts (EA) invites applications for a temporary Data Engineer II based in Vancouver, BC, with a hybrid or onsite work model. This role is part of the Data & Insights (D&I) team, a key group that drives strategy, builds data and AI tools, and supports personalization, experimentation, and analytics across EA’s global game portfolio.
About the RoleYou will collaborate with Game, Analytics and Product teams to implement data strategies and develop complex ETL pipelines that support dashboards and deeper game understanding. You will help modernize data for NHL and UFC, migrating features from legacy architecture to a modern medallion architecture, using the latest data engineering tech stack.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain end‑to‑end data pipelines, from brainstorming to delivery, to enable data insights.
- Gather requirements, model and design solutions to support product analytics, business analytics and data science teams.
- Design, implement and maintain efficient, scalable, robust data pipelines using cloud‑native and open‑source technologies.
- Develop and optimise ETL/ELT processes to ingest, transform, and deliver data from diverse sources.
- Produce production‑grade code that delivers accurate datasets; automate deployment and monitoring using CI/CD practices.
- Document technical specifications, data processes and architecture for transparency.
- Participate in code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and support team knowledge sharing.
- Collaborate with analysts and studio engineers to create scalable, end‑to‑end solutions.
- Promote data modelling, quality and architecture improvements.
- Explore opportunities for cost and compute optimisation and new feature designs.
- 4+ years in a data engineering role and a graduate degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems or a quantitative field.
- Strong SQL writing skills and experience with cloud‑based databases such as Snowflake, Redshift, Big Query or similar.
- Experience in data modelling, dbt, ETL processes and data warehousing.
- Proficiency in Python or Java.
- Version control and code‑review tools, e.g., Git.
- Knowledge of orchestration tools such as Airflow.
- Experience with AWS, GCP or Azure and infrastructure‑as‑code tools like Docker, Terraform or Cloud Formation.
- Familiarity with data quality, governance, and observability tools (e.g., Great Expectations, Monte Carlo).
- Comfortable working with cross‑functional teams, locally and remotely.
- Experience with BI and data visualisation tools (Looker, Tableau, Power BI).
- Experience in an Agile environment and tools such as JIRA, Trello, Target process.
- Experience in gaming telemetry or similar data.
- Knowledge of big‑data platforms (EMR, Databricks, Kafka, Spark, Iceberg).
- Experience with near‑real‑time or streaming datasets.
- Exposure to AI/ML, MLOps and collaboration with data science teams.
- Integrating data solutions with AI/ML platforms or support for AI‑driven analytics.
Pay range (British Columbia): $100,000 – $139,500 CAD per annum (salary may vary based on location, experience and market conditions). This role also includes benefits such as 3 weeks vacation, 10 days sick leave, extended health/dental/vision coverage and basic life insurance.
