Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Senior Director, Human Resources, this position is responsible for delivering day-to-day HR services at Hastings Racecourse & Casino. The HR Coordinator provides administrative and operational HR support across the employee lifecycle, responds to team member and leader inquiries, and supports the execution of HR programs, policies, and labour relations activities.

This role serves as the primary on-site HR contact and requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to apply sound judgment. While largely tactical in nature, the role also supports site leadership by providing practical HR guidance and escalating matters appropriately.

The HR Coordinator supports a safe, compliant, and welcoming work environment and contributes to Great Canadian’s learning and development culture.

Key Accountabilities

HR Administration & Program Support

  • Process HR documentation and maintain accurate employee and site HR files
  • Prepare internal HR correspondence and documentation as directed
  • Coordinate and support site orientations and onboarding activities
  • Respond to employment verification requests and routine HR inquiries
  • Maintain and track regulatory and licensing requirements for the site
  • Support the administration of HR programs across the employee lifecycle, including performance documentation, attendance tracking, leaves, accommodations, and terminations.
  • Recruitment & Staffing Support

  • Assist with recruitment activities, including career fairs, screening and interviewing candidates, reference checks, and candidate referrals
  • Coordinate recruitment-related documentation and onboarding requirements
  • Labour Relations & Employee Relations Support

  • Provide administrative and coordination support in a unionized environment
  • Assist with the preparation and tracking of documentation related to grievances, investigations, discipline, and other labour relations matters, in partnership with HR leadership
  • Apply collective agreement provisions in day-to-day administration and escalate interpretation or risk-related matters as required
  • Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Attend Occupational Health & Safety meetings as an employer representative
  • Support compliance with licensing laws, health and safety requirements, and other statutory regulations
  • Ensure HR practices align with company policies, procedures, and regulatory standards
  • Leadership & Stakeholder Support

  • Respond to HR-related questions from team members and site leaders, providing guidance within scope and referring more complex matters to the Senior Director, Human Resources
  • Communicate effectively with operational departments and build positive working relationships across the site
  • Support leaders with consistent, service-oriented HR administration that aligns with business needs
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Education and Qualifications

  • High School Diploma; post-secondary education in Human Resources or a related field preferred
  • HR designation (CPHR or working toward) considered an asset
  • Minimum two (2) years of HR administrative or coordination experience
  • Exposure to a unionized environment and labour relations processes
  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and confidentially
  • Proficiency in MS Office; experience with HRIS systems
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization while maintaining confidentiality
  • Ability to successfully obtain and maintain a Gaming Worker License
  • Lived or professional experience demonstrating First Nations cultural competency, including familiarity with Indigenous traditions, protocols, and practices, is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience working in a First Nations community and/or organization is preferred
