Overview
Join Manulife’s Canadian Disability and Group Life team as a Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for helping our Plan Members return to alternate occupations at their own employer or to identify and prepare for appropriate alternate occupations with other employers. Analytical and collaboration with disability case manager to complete transferable skills analysis determining an individual’s ability to perform alternative jobs within their physical and cognitive limitations, supporting decisions on benefit eligibility, return-to-work plans, or vocational retraining.
Aid in the development of individually designed return to work strategies will be determined by providing or referring for services, as necessary, regarding the identified need of the Plan Member such as vocational assessments and training, career planning and development, job development and job search techniques and community resources.
Special conditions:
This position is home‑based, and travel within the province will be required.
- Conduct vocational assessments and transferable skills analyses.
- Develop, monitor and implement innovative and goal-oriented vocational rehabilitation strategies for plan members.
- Develop positive relationships through frequent communication and collaboration with plan sponsors, plan members, treatment providers and internal partners (i.e. case managers) to develop creative return to work solutions.
- Vendor and budget management to ensure the most effective and efficient programs are available to our Plan Members
- Action daily administrative tasks which include responding to emails and telephone calls in a timely manner.
- A post-secondary diploma, CEGEP (DEC or DEP) or bachelor’s degree in a healthcare program. Preference will be given to those candidates with Health Sciences related education and direct experience in a rehabilitation setting.
- Accredited Rehabilitation Professional (RRP) and/or Canadian Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CCRC) eligibility, completion or enrolment in related Vocational Rehabilitation courses and/or experience as a vocational counselor would be an asset
- Direct experience using vocational assessment tools and techniques to assess job skills, create vocational goals and plans and to resolve factors impacting the return to work
- Knowledge and understanding of local and regional labor market conditions and trends
- Budget management and basic math skills to determine costs and understand the financial implications of the recommended work transition plan
- Sound knowledge of Rehabilitation Industry Standards, disability insurance, medical terminology, and disability and rehabilitation management best practices as well as an understanding of job descriptions and job demands in relation to functional abilities.
- Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset. If the successful candidate is in Québec, proficiency in both languages will be required to support clients from various provinces outside of Quebec.
- Excellent knowledge of Federal and Provincial employment programs, public and private vocational retraining facilities and employment placement processes.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
