Detailed OverviewAs a member of the interprofessional care team, reporting to the Manager, Clinical Operations for day to day operations and delivery of services, and to the Occupational Therapy Clinical Practice Leader for professional practice and clinical issues, the Occupational Therapist provides occupational therapy services to child and adolescent patients of the Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Unit (CAPSU) or Adolescent Psychiatry Unit (APU).
ResponsibilitiesEducation and Experience
Graduation from an accredited school of Occupational Therapy. Current full registration with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC. Two (2) years of recent, related experience working in mental health with children and/or adolescents or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Skills and Abilities- Knowledge of child and adolescent development issues.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation.
- Ability to work with children and adolescents with mental health problems.
- Knowledge of the College of Health and Care Professionals of British Columbia standards of practice and practice guidelines for clinical practitioners.
- Knowledge of occupational therapy standardized tests, measures, use of equipment and related techniques.
- Ability to work with the community network and various community resources.
- Ability to communicate effectively and respectively with patients, caregivers, members of the interprofessional care team, both verbally (one-on-one and in groups) and in writing.
- Ability to teach and provide effective consultation to patients, caregivers, and other health care professionals.
- Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of an interprofessional team.
- Ability to deal effectively with others.
- Ability to operate related equipment including relevant software applications.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
