Clinical Dietitian 2 – Acute Care – Vancouver Coastal Health
The salary range for this position is CAD $40.75/hr – CAD $50.87/hr.
Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Registered Dietitian to join the team at Vancouver General Hospital.
Responsibilities- Assess patients for optimal nutrition support utilizing advanced clinical nutrition knowledge.
- Provide recommendations to the medical team regarding route of nutrition support (enteral vs. parenteral) and composition of appropriate nutrition support plus vitamin and mineral supplementation, based on current practice guidelines.
- Develop nutrition support regimes and monitor clients regularly for continued appropriateness, tolerance and safety.
- Provide education sessions related to nutrition support for health care professionals, including students and interns from all professions, and act as a clinical resource for dietitians, students and other health care professionals.
- Initiate and participate in nutrition‑related research projects.
- Participate in the development of nutrition‑related policies, procedures and guidelines for designated areas.
- Current full registration as a Dietitian with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC).
- Two (2) years of recent, related clinical experience in a medical/surgical care setting plus Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) from ASPEN or equivalent education, training and experience.
- Registered with Restricted Activity A and C for designing therapeutic diets administered enterally and registered with Restricted Activity B for designing therapeutic diets administered parenterally, as set out in the College Bylaws.
- Knowledge of clinical dietetic theory and practice within a client/family‑centred model of care.
- Knowledge of enteral and parenteral nutrition, feeding tube access and delivery methods.
- Knowledge of the metabolic basis of nutritional care.
- Knowledge of the standards of practice and guidelines for clinical practitioners established by CHCPBC.
- Knowledge of assessing clients with multi‑system nutritional problems.
- Knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
- Knowledge of research process and methodology.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and implement nutrition care plans in relation to client/family priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to assess client responses to care plans and respond appropriately.
- Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events, handle conflict and think critically.
- Demonstrated ability to teach and provide leadership and work direction.
- Demonstrated ability to develop procedure protocols, manuals and practice guidelines within a program.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, co‑workers, physicians and other health‑care staff.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritise work.
- Demonstrated physical ability to carry out the duties of the job and skill in the use of appropriate equipment and supplies.
- Demonstrated computer skills, including use of a client care information system, Internet and office software.
The hours of work, including days off, may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
As per Ministry of Health policy, all health‑care workers working in publicly‑funded facilities are required to report past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections.
