What You Will Do Summary

Providence Health Care's Mental Health program is currently accepting applications for RNs and RPNs to join their teams. Potential opportunities include:

  • Inpatient Psychiatry & Psychiatric Stabilization
  • Geriatric Psychiatry
  • Eating Disorders
  • Tertiary Neuropsychiatry
  • Dementia Mental Health

Our RNs and RPNs are core members of our interdisciplinary care teams, working closely with other disciplines like Psychiatry, Social Work, Physiotherapy, and Occupational Therapy to tackle the variety of treatment needs of the patient populations we serve. With a tight-knit and supportive working environment that fosters a sense of community amongst practitioners dedicated to patient care, being a nurse in Providence's Mental Health Program provides incredible opportunities for interdisciplinary learning, mentorship, and professional development.

Your responsibilities will include:

Comprehensive Patient Care: Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care for patients/residents, addressing physical, social, spiritual, and psychological needs, and modifies care plans based on patient progress.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration and Documentation: Reviews patient status, monitors progress, documents assessments and interventions, and reports changes in patient condition to designated staff, ensuring effective communication within the healthcare team.

Patient Education and Crisis Management: Identifies patient and family learning needs, provides educational materials, leads group sessions, and manages crisis and life-threatening situations through direct nursing interventions.

Team Support and Professional Development: Provides direction and guidance to other healthcare staff, participates in nursing orientation, shares clinical knowledge, engages in quality improvement activities, and supports nursing research to enhance practice.

What You Bring

Education:

  • Currently practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College Nurses and Midwives
  • One year recent experience in acute psychiatry or tertiary mental health, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform Cardiopulmonary
  • Resuscitation (CPR) procedures appropriate for the area of service.
  • Ability to work as a member in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to apply decision making and analytical skills.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Ability to role model conflict resolution strategies.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Ability to teach and identify patient/resident learning needs.
  • Ability to lead patient/family group sessions.
  • Ability to provide clinical direction.
