As Policy Specialist, you will be responsible in leading aspects of Energy Planning work related to engagement and communication, government relations and regulatory applications. You will be comfortable working with technical and engineering information and thinking strategically about long term planning needs of BC Hydro and, specifically Energy Planning deliverables such as load forecasts, long term resource plans and associated work.
The main responsibilities include:
- Responsible for technical engagements related to long-term resource planning,
- Energy Planning’s lead for broader public and First Nation’s engagement on long term resource plans,
- Responsible for Energy Planning communications, such as managing media and other communications requests, cross-company materials development, and executive briefings,
- Energy Planning’s lead and/or coordinator for aspects of government requests and associated strategic policy initiatives,
- Energy Planning’s lead and/or coordinator for government communication requests such as house notes, estimates notes, and ministry briefings,
- Draft, coordinate and/or support Energy Planning related regulatory applications,
- Monitor and provide expertise on energy policy developments and utility best practices as they relate to long term resource planning
- May be assigned role in discrete Energy Planning initiatives as they arise.
- Post-secondary degree in resource management, public policy, communications, or related field. Master’s degree would be an asset
- A minimum of eight years of relevant work experience in engagement, facilitation, or communication areas related to engineering, utility, or major project construction works.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written.
- Demonstrated familiarity in working with engineering and other technical information.
- Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships and manage stakeholder expectations.
- Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills.
- Past experience working with multiple stakeholders and in stakeholder engagement and regulatory hearings
- Prior experience working with government or a Crown Corporation
- Effective presentation skills, including the ability to effectively convey complex power systems planning, reliability, and economic impact issues to diverse audiences.
- Experience planning complex multi year, multi party engagement and consultation processes.
- A minimum of 15 paid vacation days
