The Role

The Financial Analyst is responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of financial reports. This role will assist with preparing the monthly consolidation of financial information from subsidiary business units across South America. The role allows for significant professional development with exposure to the full cycle of activities within financial accounting and reporting. This is a 6-month contract position, with the possibility of extension.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monthly consolidation of financial results and analysis of financial information as reported by the Company’s subsidiaries
  • Assistance with the preparation of the Company’s quarterly financial filings including the consolidated financial statements, management discussion & analysis (MD&A) and press release
  • Reasonability assessments and preparation of working papers to support financial statement notes
  • Preparation of quarterly results presentation for Audit Committee, providing analysis and insight on financial results to assist with Audit Committee’s review
  • Accountability for Financial Statement inquiries from Senior Leadership and Audit Committee
  • Maintenance of the Company’s Financial Reporting and Consolidation software and providing support to other Finance team members
Financial Reporting Oversight and Compliance
  • Provision of financial oversight to select operating sites of the Company
  • Standardization of reporting tools and templates across all operations
  • Coordination of quarterly reviews and year-end audit with external auditors
  • Maintenance and support of proper internal controls and procedures relating to the consolidation and external reporting function
Accounting Policy
  • Ensuring group accounting policies are applied consistently across the Company’s operations
  • IFRS and accounting developments research
  • Ensuring the Company’s consolidated financial statements contain the necessary disclosure requirements
Projects
  • Ad hoc projects, including but not limited to process improvements, due diligence support, and IT related initiatives
What You Bring
  • CPA designation with a minimum of 4 years’ progressive accounting experience with a publicly traded mining organization and/or public accounting firm
  • Knowledge of principles of consolidation and public company reporting requirements
  • Excellent communication skills (written, oral and presentation) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with different groups and levels within the organization
  • Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential issues in a public company
  • Professional approach and presence
  • Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and individually
  • Exceptional organizational skills sufficient to prioritize and complete assignments and projects independently, while balancing competing needs and attending to detail
  • Demonstrated, outstanding ability to work under pressure in a busy office with frequent interruptions, changing priorities and short deadlines
  • Experience with IBM Cognos Controller and/or SAP would be an asset, but not required
  • Ability to speak Spanish or Portuguese would be an asset, but not required.
