Salary range: $70,000 – $115,000

Purpose of Role:

The Senior Mortgage Underwriter is the primary point of contact for all originator interaction. Further, they are responsible for the review, processing and approval of mortgage applications, ensuring strict adherence to Strive’s residential mortgage underwriting policy, procedures, and applicable guidelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver an exceptional customer service experience in every interaction
  • Investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and approve or decline applications based on authorized lending limits and within Strive Capital’s Residential Underwriting guidelines and current legislation
  • Assist other Underwriters and Fulfillment with questions or concerns
  • Build, maintain and enhance customer service levels. Verify and validate customer eligibility and material risk documentation for accuracy while mitigating any concerns surrounding suspected misrepresentation
  • Gather any necessary information required to coordinate and analyze credit applications and ensure consistent, objective, and sound credit decisions in a high-volume environment
  • Analyze and submit recommendations regarding credit applications which exceed their authorized limit
  • Analyze and submit (where applicable) applications requiring Mortgage Insurer approval, in compliance with guidelines
  • Verify data and information on mortgage applications and credit bureaus to ensure accuracy
  • Ensure the attainment of service standards for processing applications in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • Resolve any escalated credit issues, reply to internal and external client queries, and communicate credit decisions
  • Keeps up to date on applicable legislation, as well as on the company’s policies, programs, procedures, and mortgage insurer policies
  • Ensure awareness and compliance with all aspects of the QA program
  • Continuously learn, adapt, engage, and grow in your role and as an integral part of the organization

Complete all mandatory training, specifically:

  • Regulatory
  • Privacy
  • Compliance and risk management
  • AML/ATF
  • Quality Assurance
  • Act at all times in accordance with Strive’s risk appetite as defined by the RMUP

Confidentiality:

Maintain employee, customer and partner confidentiality as described by Strive’s Employee Handbook.

Qualifications:

  • University degree is an asset
  • Must have previous single family residential mortgage underwriting experience
  • Previous experience developing and maintaining positive broker relationships
  • Detailed working knowledge of principles of residential mortgage underwriting and risk management, as well as real estate markets nationally
  • Demonstrated ability to flourish in a high-volume environment
  • An ability to quickly assess and make accurate decisions
  • Commitment to grow as an individual by constantly learning and staying on top of industry changes
  • Strong working knowledge of all 3 Mortgage Insurer programs and guidelines
  • Positive attitude and commitment to drive company growth with exceptional customer service, strong team collaboration and sound credit decisioning

Employment Type:

Full time with regular working hours (currently remote and in-person hybrid working environment).
