Overview
We're seeking a Design Manager to lead a team of 7–8 electrical engineers/designers delivering traction power and distribution systems for major programs and small/medium capital projects across the transit portfolio. You will own delivery quality, resource planning, technical governance, and cross‑functional coordination while mentoring a high‑performing team. This role balances people leadership, project delivery oversight, and technical stewardship, with hands‑on involvement in design reviews and risk/assurance.
Your role Team & Delivery Leadership- Lead, coach, and develop a team of 7–8 designers (performance management, workload balancing, growth planning, succession).
- Set delivery standards, oversee multi‑project schedules, and ensure on‑time, on‑budget, first‑time‑right outcomes.
- Provide technical direction for 12/25/35 kV distribution, 600
Vdc/750 Vdc/1.5 kVdc traction power, and auxiliary power systems. - Oversee studies and deliverables: load flow, short‑circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, grounding & bonding, harmonics/EMC, selectivity, and reliability/availability analyses.
- Guide substation/TPSS layout, equipment specification (transformers, rectifiers, switch gear, breakers, protection relays), cable routing, and earthing/grounding systems.
- Forecast and manage design budgets, approve timesheets, and monitor earned value (EV).
- Support bids/proposals (scopes, assumptions, staffing plans, deliverable lists, level‑of‑effort, risk registers).
- B.A.Sc./B.Eng. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with a P.Eng. (EGBC) in good standing or eligible within 6 months.
- 8–12+ years in power systems for rail/transit or utility/industrial distribution, with 3–5 years in technical leadership or design management.
- Prior experience on metro/LRT traction power systems (TPSS design, 600
Vdc/750 Vdc/1.5 kVdc). - Must be eligible to work in Canada.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver multidisciplinary design packages across multiple, concurrent projects.

compensation
For this role is between $124,300 – $170,900 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters such as skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
