* Take ownership and create designs in accordance with all applicable codes, standards and legislation, as well as TRIUMF’s Professional Practice Management Plan.
* Significantly contribute to a moderately complex engineering scope including conceptual design, detailed design, procurement/fabrication, installation, testing, commissioning, and operation of specialized equipment, with timelines less than 1 year.
* Be a proactive team player on the project team to achieve scientific and engineering deliverables while managing the balance of quality, costs, and schedule.
* Collaborate in cross-functional work including coordination across engineering disciplines and with specialists
* Write and review technical documents such as requirements specification, drawings/schematics, engineering reports, commissioning reports, operating manuals, etc.
* Identify the need for engineering review that lies outside of the candidate’s expertise
* Manage safety on the job by ensuring all installation and maintenance work is done in accordance with TRIUMF procedures and safety protocols, and seek to improve upon best practices
* Collaborate with the Design and Fabrication Group on the preparation of engineering drawings and fabrication of components
* Coordinate the field installation of equipment, and commission and troubleshoot with TRIUMF technicians or external contractors
* Excellent oral and written technical communication skills in English.
* Ability to comfortably explain/present difficult situations clearly and attains agreement with internal team members
* Capability to build consensus among physicists, designers, technicians, engineers, and project managers.
* Ability to effectively integrate designs into systems.
* Demonstrated ability to balance competing priorities and plan work to meet customer deliverables.
* Ability to coordinate the field installation of equipment, commission and troubleshoot with TRIUMF technicians or external contractors
* Experience with Solid Works PDM or equivalent CAD software
* Experience applying fundamental mechanical engineering analysis in any areas of machine design, strength of materials, structural stress analysis, fluid flow, or heat transfer.
* Strong problem-solving skills, sound engineering judgement, and attention to details
* Experience in preparation and review of mechanical drawings for manufacturing.
* Experience with mechanical assembly work, power tools and common manufacturing processes
* Experience with ANSYS or equivalent CAE software
* Experience with Mathcad or similar software to document engineering calculations
* Experience with Geometric Design and Tolerancing (GD&T)
* Any experience with nuclear facilities and equipment design for radiation environments
* Experience with cranes and rigging
* 4 to 7 years of professional industry experience in progressively more complex, similar roles would suit this role best.
* Bachelor’s or higher degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, engineering physics with a mechanical specialization
* Registered as an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PEng) with Engineers & Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC) in good standing, or eligibility for immediate registration or transfer from another province within 3 months.
