You’ll work on diverse files across commercial, industrial, institutional, and large‑facility environments
, tackling everything from HVAC system failures to pressure vessel incidents to heavy machinery breakdowns.
- Take ownership of investigation assignments involving mechanical system failures or operational disruptions.
- Conduct on‑site inspections to evaluate design, installation, maintenance practices, and performance of mechanical systems.
- Analyze mechanical failures, defects, and damages to determine root cause with scientific rigor.
- Assess damage severity and provide expert guidance on repair/restoration options.
- Contribute engineering design expertise for system remediation and improvements.
- Review codes, standards, regulations, contracts, and technical documentation.
- Offer technical advisory support for insurance, legal, regulatory, and risk‑related matters.
- Develop detailed engineering reports that showcase your findings and recommendations.
- Act as an expert witness when required—translating technical insights into clear, defensible testimony.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and represent the organization in client meetings, presentations, seminars, and industry events.
- Support business development through exceptional client engagement and professional presence.
- Stay ahead of emerging engineering trends and industry best practices.
- Contribute to technical papers or publications.
- Uphold organizational and professional standards of excellence.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in a Canadian jurisdiction
- 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience; forensic or failure‑analysis experience is a strong asset
- Hands‑on experience with HVAC, plumbing/piping, boilers & pressure vessels, and heavy equipment
- Mechanical damage assessment experience required
- Experience with insurance, legal, or risk management partners is considered an advantage
- Expert witness experience is a bonus
- Exceptional written and verbal communication
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and engineering tools (e.g., AutoCAD)
- Deep knowledge of mechanical codes, standards, and regulatory frameworks
- Strong analytical thinking and root‑cause problem‑solving capabilities
- Excellent project management and organizational skills
- Confident presenter with a client‑first mindset
- Work may include office‑based analysis, remote consulting, and on‑site investigations across industrial, commercial, construction, and residential environments
- Travel up to ~40% depending on file requirements
- Occasional lifting of field equipment (up to ~50 lbs)
