Job Overview
We are seeking a Hydrogeologist to join our dynamic Water Resources Group and support groundwater modelling projects. The position can be located in either North Vancouver or New Westminster offices and includes coordination and execution of field programs, data analysis, and reporting of environmental management projects.
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with Hatfield’s Health and Safety Management Plan, the law, and client safety protocols.
- Support and participate in groundwater modelling projects led by our numerical modelling team.
- Implement and participate in field programs required for hydrogeologic monitoring.
- Support ongoing data management (e.g., review of near‑real‑time telemetry, continuous and periodic water‑level and lab data) and reporting to clients and regulatory agencies (e.g., draft technical report sections and data summaries).
- Support research and analytical tasks including data collection, compilation, analysis, statistical and deterministic modelling.
- Communicate technical information efficiently and effectively (verbal and written).
Education and Experience
- M.Sc. or higher in sciences or engineering with hydrogeology experience.
- Eligible for registration with EGBC as a geoscientist or engineer in training.
- Relevant hydrogeological work experience is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience with groundwater modelling software (e.g., MODFLOW, FEFLOW, Groundwater Vistas) or related tools.
- Experience and interest in field work, including remote locations.
- Fluent verbal communication and concise writing.
- Valid Canadian driver’s license for at least three years, experience driving a pickup truck, and ability to meet third‑party insurance requirements.
Other Assets/Skills
- Experience with data handling and analysis, especially Aquarius, R, Python, GIS.
- Strong geology background, particularly familiarity with bedrock geology of British Columbia and Alberta.
- Ability to develop robust, scientifically defensible, practical conceptual hydrogeological models.
- Experience with complex groundwater monitoring installations in mine settings.
- Comfortable using technology and eager to learn about environmental monitoring systems such as data loggers and software packages.
- Team player with a positive attitude.
- Prepared for extensive fieldwork in varied weather, including remote locations and camp stays.
- Adaptable, willing to work overtime to support field programs.
- Attention to detail and adherence to numerical modelling standards.
