ABOUT THE UNIT

Campus Life & Engagement (CL&E) supports all McGill students by connecting them to resources and creating meaningful opportunities for involvement. They guide students in navigating the McGill student experience through orientation and transition programming and by providing student life opportunities across campus for students to develop their interests and skills.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Client Services Manager, the Ask Mc Gill  Student Navigator plays a key role in enhancing the student experience by providing timely, accurate, and student-friendly information about campus resources and services. Navigators offer student support at on-campus kiosks and events, particularly during Orientation Week and throughout the academic year.

This position involves direct student engagement, promotion of university services, and referral to appropriate support resources. Support is provided in person, over the phone, and via email. Comprehensive training is offered to prepare Navigators for our high-volume Fall orientation period.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Welcome new and returning students in a professional, inclusive, and friendly manner
  • Promote Student Services, Campus Life & Engagement, and other university resources
  • Answer questions, provide information and give directions in-person, over the phone or by email
  • Maintain an adequate supply of resource material (e.g., campus maps/Services pamphlets)
  • Research and share relevant resources with students
  • Maintain regular communications with staff (e.g., emailing, messaging on Sling and Teams)
  • Set up and take down of kiosk & signage as required by location
  • Assist in CL&E campaigns such as Orientation, Get Involved, and Community Engagement Day as needed
  • Tracking frequently asked questions & service statistics
  • Other support tasks as required
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Currently registered as a full-time student in any degree program at McGill University.
  • Work Study eligibility, an asset.
  • Spoken and written French, an asset.
  • One year of on-campus experience, an asset.
  • Experience in customer service, peer support roles or campus life initiatives, an asset.
  • Knowledge of French and English:
    McGill University is an English-language university where day-to-day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at level 2 (written) and level 4 (spoken) on a scale of 0-4.
OTHER QUALIFYING SKILLS AND/OR ABILITIES
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Must be a full-time returning student in a degree program at Mc Gill
  • General knowledge about on campus resources, activities and services
  • Punctual, conscientious and reliable
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Respectful, positive attitude, and empathetic
EMPLOYMENT LEARNING OUTCOMES

As an Ask Mc Gill  Student Navigator, you will develop skills in:

  • Inclusive, student-centered customer service
  • Campus resource navigation and referral
  • Peer communication and outreach
  • Event setup and logistical coordination
Hours/Week:
  • Now hiring for the Fall 2026 Orientation period (August/September); must be available to work up to 30 hours per week between August 10 and August 29
    .
  • Approx. 5-15 hours per week during Fall/Winter terms (must be available for in person training downtown campus on August 12 and 13
    ).

Some weekend and evening work will occasionally be required for special events, especially in August.
