Job Summary

This position is classified as an Independent Contractor. ESL Instructor is not an employee of the institution and will operate independently while meeting agreed‑upon performance standards and educational policies aligned with PTIRU. The contractor is responsible for their own taxes, benefits, equipment, and work arrangements, and will not be entitled to employee benefits. The role collaborates closely with the Admissions and Academic teams but does not hold decision‑making authority within the organization.

Position Summary

Cornerstone Community International College is seeking a dedicated and dynamic instructor/professional to teach ESL to our students.

Key Responsibilities

The Independent Contractor shall provide instructional and related academic services for the English as a Second Language (ESL) Program, which may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Create and maintain a positive, inclusive, and effective teaching‑learning environment that supports ESL student success and engagement.
  • Develop and deliver effective learning experiences using pre‑authorized, institution‑approved, or college‑approved course resources.
  • Ensure instruction aligns with established course objectives and program outcomes.
  • Incorporate a variety of teaching and learning strategies to meet diverse student needs and learning styles.
  • Engage students through a systematic and varied instructional approach, including lectures, presentations, demonstrations, discussion groups, workshops, seminars, case studies, and independent or group projects.
  • Plan and manage lesson plans, assignments, classroom activities, and overall course assessment.
  • Clearly communicate course objectives, expectations, and evaluation criteria to students.
  • Facilitate and motivate class discussions, encouraging critical thinking, debate, feedback, and active student participation.
  • Create, adapt, and develop teaching materials, including audio‑visual, digital, and web‑based resources, where appropriate.
  • Plan, prepare, administer, and grade assignments, quizzes, tests, exams, and other assessment tools.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and document student progress in accordance with program or institutional requirements.
  • Maintain effective control and appropriate use of classroom facilities, instructional equipment, materials, software, and learning tools assigned to the course.
  • Perform additional course‑related administrative duties as required, including record‑keeping, reporting, and coordination related to instructional delivery.
Required Experience & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in ESL, Applied Linguistics, Education, or a related field.
  • TESOL certification (e.g., CELTA, TESOL, TEFL) preferred.
  • Previous experience teaching English as a Second Language to diverse learner populations, preferably in a college or university setting.
  • Proficiency in instructional technology and online learning platforms for blended or fully online instruction.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and intercultural communication skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with English language learners.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment that values diversity and promotes student success.
  • Comprehensive skills in common workplace software, including online teaching techniques like Zoom and Slack.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi‑disciplinary research team.
