Job Summary

UBC Forestry’s Teaching and Learning Support (TLS) team provides faculty members, teaching staff, and students with excellent services and resources to improve their teaching and learning experiences in in‑person, online, and hybrid environments. The TLS team takes on various tasks, including learning technology innovation and support, course design/redesign, community engagement, and educational research.

The Teaching & Educational Technology Coordinator in the TLS team plays a key role in designing and implementing educational technology (EdTech) solutions to meet the needs of various educational programs and initiatives in UBC Forestry. The position will advise on the effective use of diverse EdTech, and develop strategies to enhance accessibility and inclusive teaching. In addition, this position will investigate cutting‑edge EdTech applications in Forestry courses.

Organizational

Status

Reports to Associate Director, TLS. Works closely with other members of the TLS team, IT team, Faculty, staff, and other instructional support and educational units.

Work Performed
  • Advise instructors, program employees, student employees, and other clients on using the learning management system, selecting, integrating, and implementing diverse EdTech.
  • Assist the Unit Manager in designing and developing EdTech solutions aligned with the objectives of educational programs and initiatives across various delivery modes (in‑person, online, hybrid).
  • Implement digital teaching materials and multimedia for educational programs in Forestry through the learning management system and related EdTech.
  • Incorporate innovative approaches for instructors to enhance accessibility and universal design for learning across various learning modalities.
  • Work with the AV staff in the IT team to manage teaching‑related equipment (360‑degree camera, motion‑tracking/Owl camera, audio device, etc.) and support hybrid lectures, seminars, and meetings.
  • Support operations in assessments and help implement assessment strategies in the learning management system through EdTech and related API (application programming interface).
  • Work with instructors and other units at UBC (Student Services, Forestry IT, Centre for Accessibility, LT Hub, etc.) to organize and deliver in‑person and online assessments.
  • Respond to incidents and requests in a timely manner, providing solutions or work‑arounds to accommodate clients’ immediate needs.
  • Document and follow up on incidents and requests, managing escalations when required to ensure issue resolution.
Teaching Innovation
  • Investigate innovative and emerging EdTech (e.g., augmented reality tools, artificial intelligence tools) on their applications in Forestry courses.
