HEABC leads and supports the strategic planning related to human resources and labour relations on behalf of British Columbia’s publicly funded health employers. HEABC’s Human Resources, Strategies & Services (HRSS) department is responsible for the administration of a number of Health Human Resource initiatives across the province, including the Locums for Rural BC program (LRBC). LRBC supports and assists physicians and specialists practicing in BC’s most rural communities to find practice coverage while they take periods of leave from their practices for continuing medical education (CME), and vacation needs.

The successful candidate may be permitted to work in a hybrid model (combination of in-office and flexible work location, following a mandatory 30-day in-office training period) and will live within commuting distance of our Vancouver office.

Opportunity

Reporting to the Team Lead, LRBC, the Locum Officer responds to requests from rural host physicians and the Ministry of Health Services to locate qualified locums to provide temporary locum relief in accordance with the parameters of the LRBC Programs, and the policies of the Ministry of Health Services and Physician Compensation, Rural Programs Section.

Responsibilities
  • Receives, screens, communicates eligibility and screening requirements, fills, and confirms requests for host physician vacancies, supplemental contracts, and locum placements for the LRBC Programs.
  • Facilitates the referral process with communication between the rural host physician and the potential locum, provides clear explanations of the LRBC rules, policies and customary practices.
  • Provides concierge services to locum physicians which includes accurate interpretation and application of program policies, provision of assignment specific information, expert advice, assistance and making travel bookings.
  • Updates and maintains member (hosts, locum, admin) accounts and vacancy information in the LRBC databases, and maintains an accurate filing system.
  • Obtains, prepares, processes, reviews and approves the required documentation for locum assignments to facilitate timely payment for physicians and vendors.
  • Understands physician payment models and responds to payment inquiries from HIBC, HEABC finance department, physicians and health authorities to facilitate timely payments.
Required Experience and Education
  • Successful completion of two-year post-secondary diploma in business administration or other relevant discipline and at least three (3) years’ experience in a position requiring related knowledge of recruitment, or data management or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience (preferably in health care and/or hospitality).
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, including demonstration of tact, discretion, confidentiality and patience.
