Hi! 👋 I'm Chris, head of Product Design ’re looking for a versatile, intrinsically motivated designer who is excited to contribute to rethinking how modern software is designed. At Ashby, you’ll be part designer, part product manager, part consultant, and part design‑system manager. We do design differently here, and if that excites you, read on.
Our unique approach is working – we’re growing >100% year-over-year and have notable customers like Notion, Linear, Shopify, and Snowflake. Our growth and retention metrics are best‑in‑class among our peers. We’re backed by amazing investors such as Y Combinator, Elad Gil, and Lachy Groom. We’ll share more details once we meet.
How We WorkWe take a principled, project‑centric approach. Design isn’t a one‑off task; it’s embedded throughout the product lifecycle. In some cases you’ll own a feature from idea to launch and work directly with engineers and product managers. In other situations you’ll provide guidance on existing components and advocate for quality across the product. We resist the status‑quo and iterate quickly.
What We’re BuildingAshby provides talent teams with intelligent, powerful software that identifies great candidates, speeds interviews, and creates a friction‑free candidate experience. We automate or simplify repetitive tasks like scheduling, “Calendar Tetris,” and interview logistics, freeing recruiters to focus on strategy.

- Curious and resourceful, with the ability to de‑risk creative solutions
- Strong skills in layout, navigation, IA, UI, and interaction design
- Strong visual design skills with an obsession for craft and detail
- Bonus: experience at an early‑stage startup or as an independent designer on a team

- Work on all parts of a large product surface—many user types, JTBDs, usability challenges
- Help reinvent the design model for modern enterprise software without being confined to wireframes, personas, or personas
- Cover all parts of the design process, focusing on design craft; occasional user research but mainly heuristics and experience
- Build our design system from the ground up
- You feel uncomfortable designing independently without much guidance
- You’re uncomfortable having your decisions and process constantly challenged by engineering or product
- You prefer an in‑person role over remote (Ashby operates remotely)
- You dislike written documentation
- You prefer a narrow scope—interaction design only, design system only, etc.
- Consulting for engineers on layout, typography, flows, etc.
- Digging into problems by consulting GTM, talking to customers, and requesting data to support proposals
- Using Figma to create visual artifacts for stakeholder alignment
- Writing specification documents (specs) that detail design proposals and align stakeholders
- Taking ownership of larger product features—jobs‑to‑be‑done, navigation, information architecture, layout, interaction, etc.
- Using customer feedback and heuristics to build a usability backlog and propose projects for engineers
- Consolidating and refining our design system to be functional, aesthetic, and best‑in‑class
- 30‑minute intro call to discuss Ashby and your experience
- 45‑minute portfolio review
- 135‑minute design exercise, portfolio deep dive, and meeting the CEO—live whiteboarding to break down problems and solutions
- 90‑minute meet the team and an app teardown
- Competitive salary and equity
- 10‑year exercise window for stock options—no pressure to purchase upon departure
- Unlimit…
