allSPACES is a growing interior design and build company specializing in tenant improvements (TI) across office, retail, daycare and hospitality environments. Our integrated approach blends creative design with construction expertise to deliver functional, inspiring, and buildable spaces. We are seeking a Intermediate Interior Designer who is collaborative, detail-oriented, and excited about commercial design.
Position OverviewThe Intermediate Interior Designer supports and contributes to all phases of the design and construction process, from concept creation and space planning to detailed documentation and site coordination. This role requires strong technical ability, excellent communication skills, and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team. The ideal candidate is motivated, solution-oriented, and eager to grow within a fast-paced design-build environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign & Concept Development
- Contribute to concept development, design presentations, mood boards, and material palettes.
- Assist in space planning, layout development, and design problem-solving.
- Create 3D visuals and graphic presentations for client approval (Sketch Up or similar).
Technical Drawings & Documentation
- Produce accurate CAD drawings for permit, tender, and construction packages.
- Draft floor plans, RCPs, elevations, sections, millwork drawings, and technical details.
- Assist in preparing construction documents, schedules, specifications, and finish plans.
- Ensure all documentation complies with BC Building Code, fire and life-safety requirements, and municipal standards.
Project Coordination & Communication
- Attend client meetings, site measures, and site reviews as required.
- Communicate with clients, consultants, and internal teams to support project progress and design intent.
- Support senior designers and construction managers with coordination tasks and design updates.
- Research and select materials, finishes, furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
- Prepare material boards, finish schedules, and FF&E specifications.
- Establish and maintain relationships with local vendors and suppliers.
- Work collaboratively with internal designers, estimators, and construction teams.
- Participate in office initiatives, design discussions, and firm culture.
- Provide guidance and informal mentorship to junior staff when appropriate.
Education & Experience
- Degree or diploma from a CIDA-accredited Interior Design program
. - 5+ years of experience with an interior design or architectural firm, ideally within commercial or tenant improvement sectors.
- Daycare design would be an asset.
Technical Skills
- Proficient in AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
- Experience with Sketch Up or similar 3D modeling tools.
- Strong technical drafting skills and attention to detail.
- Solid understanding of building codes, accessibility standards, and municipal permit requirements.
- Skilled in preparing construction documentation and specifications.
Soft Skills
- Strong communication and presentation abilities.
- Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize multiple deadlines.
- Self-directed while being an effective team collaborator.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and willingness to take initiative.
Preferred
- Progress toward NCIDQ or LEED accreditation (not required but an asset).
- Familiarity with Revit or other BIM software (asset).
- Collaborative, supportive, and growth-oriented workplace.
- Involvement in diverse and exciting commercial TI projects.
- Weekly coordination meetings to manage workload and support team success.
- Regular team-building and employee appreciation events.
