SummaryThe Scene Assembly Artist acts as the bridge between Camera and Animation, ensuring that camera-delivered scenes are technically sound and fully prepared for downstream departments. Operating after conform, this role serves as a critical quality‑control checkpoint before shots move into Animation. Scene Assembly Artists are responsible for validating data, verifying shot integrity, troubleshooting issues, and publishing shots while maintaining structural pipeline compliance and overall production readiness.
KeySkills and Qualifications
- Experience with Unreal Engine, Maya, and shot-based workflows.
- Understanding of pipeline processes (publishing, conforming, asset management).
- Keen eye for continuity and creative intent.
- Excellent organizational and cross‑department communication skills.
- Ability to problem‑solve in an evolving production environment.
- Ability to meet tight production schedules while maintaining quality in a fast‑paced feature animation pipeline.
- Prepare and publish shot files for Animation (Maya) based on received camera scene files (Unreal).
- Validate and update assets (camera, characters, environments, props) as needed.
- Conduct shot publishes and troubleshoot publishing issues.
- Ensure files are organized and structured according to pipeline standards.
- Experience in a shot‑based CG production environment (feature animation, episodic, or high‑end VFX) is a plus.
- Eye for creative composition and camera language is a plus.
- Working knowledge of Unreal Engine scene workflows.
- Understanding of CG pipelines, including publishing workflows, asset management, and shot tracking.
- Familiarity with USD workflows and structured scene builds.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues related to scene structure, asset updates, and publishing.
- Understanding of continuity across sequences (assets, camera, variations).
- Strong organizational skills with attention to metadata, naming conventions, and version control.
This entry‑level role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of technical workflow and creative oversight, helping ensure a smooth and efficient handoff from Camera to Animation. Candidates will have the opportunity to learn from existing Camera/Previs artists at the studio for future layout and visualization opportunities.
