Job OverviewDBC (BC) is looking for an experienced Producer to help prioritize, package and present our news coverage throughout the day for our radio audiences. This is a Monday to Friday Producer position. You play an integral editorial and leadership role in preparing radio coverage and presenting newscasts, keeping our audience informed about what’s happening in their city and province.
ResponsibilitiesYou must be an exceptional journalist and thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. You understand the diverse and changing landscape in BC and the importance of reflecting all our communities in our content. You’re also comfortable adapting and shifting plans in order to react to breaking or developing news. Your strong communication skills and journalistic judgment will help you advocate for the content that best serves our radio audiences.
Your accuracy and precision are impeccable in your own work and in your approach to vetting/editing others. The ability to give clear feedback and provide mentorship on craft to journalists from around the province is key.
- Demonstrated understanding and awareness of issues and events particular to BC.
- Excellent journalistic decision‑making skills.
- Excellent audio presentation skills and an engaging on‑air presence.
- Ability to read newscasts on air and present material with credibility and authority in a range of situations including live events and breaking news.
- Strong writing and script‑editing skills.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Strong desire to live and promote the values of diversity and inclusive and respectful work culture.
- Ability to self‑operate a studio audio board during a live newscast.
- Ability to quickly cut audio clips from a variety of audio and video sources and package news items as needed.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and deadlines, reacting quickly to changing priorities and breaking news.
- Creative, flexible, and self‑motivated.
- Journalism degree or equivalent preferred.
- Five years of comparable and relevant experience that demonstrates knowledge of the broadcasting industry preferred.
Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
Background Checks- A mandatory Criminal record check.
- Other background checks may be conducted based on the operational requirements of the position.
