Lighting Supervisor Job Overview

As a Lighting / Compositing Supervisor, your primary responsibility is to oversee the lighting and compositing aspects of a project, ensuring the realization of creative lighting goals set by the Art Director, Producer, and Client. You will lead a team of artists, providing guidance, mentorship, and fostering a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise lighting/compositing of a project and lead artists to attain the creative lighting goals of the Art Director, Producer, and Client.
  • Reports any hold-ups, departmental, and employee performance issues to Production & Heads of Department.
  • Lead, mentor, and provide guidance to the lighting and compositing team.
  • Share ideas, collaborate, and work closely with the Head of Department in order to ensure there is a streamlined production and continued growth on the project.
  • Be able to maintain effective client relationships and effectively communicate feedback.
  • Meet deadlines as assigned by Producer and communicate consistently all applicable aspects of the show status.
  • Manage the shots' rendering process to ensure each episode's successful delivery.
  • Attend all relevant meetings to promote communication throughout the production.
  • Be updated and familiar with new techniques, tools, or other related software.
  • Present solutions to creative challenges that are within the budget and scope of the project.
  • Ensure show continuity and maintain consistency
  • Is mindful of render budget vs creative vision.
  • Anticipate problems and present solutions adapted to time and budget constraints.
  • Consult with CG supervisor for producing production-friendly solutions to technical challenges.
  • Review the work of artists regularly and approve shots for submission to the Art Director.
  • Collaborate with the production team to guide the artist's overall professional growth.
  • Conduct routine performance evaluations for Lighting team members, providing constructive feedback, insights, and recommendations for improvement, including suggestions for potential promotions and future project assignments.
  • Create and maintain documentation related to the department to ensure the team is updated on all new tools, systems, and software updates.
  • Prepares and manages all episodic kick-offs related to the lighting and compositing team coordinating alongside the production team.
  • Work with Human Resources and the Production team during the hiring process for the Lighting / Compositing Department, conducting interviews and helping to select the best candidate.
  • Assist in keeping the show within budget by managing assignments and necessary overtime.
