POSITIONPURPOSE
The primary focus of the Junior Lighter is to complete high quality shots for feature film. Artists will be required to complete compositing tasks based on Image Engine’s production needs. They will work with the Lighting Lead to identify key strengths and areas of development to maximize their time and to assist in task distribution. They will be eager and willing to learn new approaches and technology to execute superior quality work.
Junior artists will complete tasks within the assigned timeframe. They will use their listening skills to take on feedback for improvement and professional development. They will begin to quality check their work to improve standards and develop as an artist. They will troubleshoot problems as necessary; however, will bring questions forward to Leads as soon as possible to ensure effective use of time and resources.
& RESPONSIBILITIES
- Apply client notes to all lighting shots with minimal guidance
- Communicate successes and challenges faced by the team to the Lighting Lead
- Take direction from the Lighting Lead to help realize the vision of the shots through the lighting team
- Work with the Composting team members to achieve high quality complex composites
- Ensure continuity is upheld across shots and sequences
- Light multiple types of shot ensuring consistency in lighting, colour balance and mood between the various elements of the shot or scene
- Manage time and resources to meet weekly targets
- 1+ years’ experience in Lighting digital VFX for film or commercials
- Good understanding of photography and film, and how the interactions of light, lenses and film emulsions go to make up the image
- Thorough understanding of a linear color-space workflow
- Excellent attention to detail when finalizing, approving or quality controlling shots
- Ability to balance quick turnaround while achieving a high degree of aesthetic quality
Technical skills
- Understanding of a ray tracing renderer such as Cycles, Eevee, PRMan RIS, Vray or Arnold
- Some scripting ability in Python is an asset
- Understanding of basic CG shading mechanisms (not at scripting level), render passes and arbitrary outputs.
- Ability to demonstrate photo-real shots/sequences created with your own light rigs and setups
- Strong aptitude for technical workflow challenges such as directory structure, file formats, naming conventions, scripts, automation tools, automated dailies, etc.
- Fair knowledge of lighting workflow and lighting application best practices
- Traditional skills as a strong artistic eye for cinematography, composition, photography and high-resolution detail, as well as a good understanding of the principles of digital film compositing such as multi-pass rendering for composite-based control
- Ability to troubleshoot and deal with competing priorities and projects
- Ability to create multiple types of Lighting scenarios
- Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and applications
- Excellent time management and communication skills
- Ability to remain calm during peak production periods and maintain the morale of the lighting team
