Construction Safety Officer

Job Description

Join a leading general contractor based in Vancouver, renowned for its expertise in both highrise and wood frame projects. We are seeking a dedicated Construction Safety Officer (CSO) to be part of a heritage restoration project in Gastown. This project involves building a 7‑story office building on a compact site, presenting unique challenges and opportunities for growth.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Project Teams on‑site with the implementation of the Occupational Health and Safety Program.

  • Promote a culture of job site safety, emphasizing that safety is everyone’s responsibility.

  • Monitor health, safety, and environmental compliance of workers and trade partners regularly.

  • Conduct site‑specific health, safety, and environmental orientations for all new site workers and visitors.

  • Facilitate and participate in site inspections, implementing corrective actions as required.

  • Implement established site safety plans, conduct hazard and risk assessments as necessary.

  • Ensure proper investigation and reporting of all accidents, incidents, and injuries to appropriate parties.

  • Review site‑specific trade partner documentation for accuracy, such as exposure control plans and fall protection.

  • Conduct health, safety, and environment meetings and toolbox talks.

  • Maintain and prepare thorough documentation and reports, ensuring secure storage in compliance with privacy legislation.

  • Collect and review labor head counts and Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHA).

  • Keep management updated on safety issues through established escalation processes.

  • Participate in the Certificate of Recognition (COR) program as required.

  • Administer first aid as necessary.

  • Assist with labor duties and site maintenance when required.

  • Perform other job site duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • Possession of OFA Level 3 certification.

  • Minimum of 1 year of safety experience.

  • Experience working for a general contractor, with carpentry knowledge.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • CSO certificate.

  • 5+ years of safety experience is preferred.
