The Canadian Cancer Society’s Camp Goodtimes provides children and youth affected by cancer and their families with an unforgettable overnight summer camp experience in a medically supervised, safe and supportive environment. We have been committed to providing a camping experience for children affected by cancer since 1985.

The Canadian Cancer Society believes that time spent at camp allows kids to just be kids, away from their diagnosis. Camp Goodtimes is proud to provide programming that gives joy, confidence, support, and hope for children with cancer and their families.

The Operations Program Leader will live on-site at Camp Goodtimes hosted by UBC’s Loon Lake Lodge and Retreat Centre, near Maple Ridge, BC. This position will work with the summer staff team and volunteer team. He/She/They will lead the Dining Hall volunteer team to wash dishes, set up meals, organize water stations and general maintenance around camp.

When not acting as an operations program leader, this role is a member of the program leader team  program leader team is responsible for instructing camp activities and supporting other staff and volunteers in delivering programs. They will also have other daily responsibilities such as helping with supervision of campers, evening cabin support, facilitating early morning and evening programs, program logistics, and care/maintenance of camp program equipment.

Commitment
  • May 9, June 4, 6, 7, 22, 23, 24 – In person training in Vancouver or at camp at Loon Lake Lodge and Retreat Centre, Maple Ridge, BC
  • June 28 – August 2, 2026 – on-site living at camp for 6 sessions at Loon Lake Lodge and Retreat Centre, Maple Ridge, BC (at least 24 hours off each week). Meals and accommodation included.
  • August 8 – 27, 2026 – on-site living at camp for 4 sessions at Camp Pringle, Shawnigan Lake, BC (at least 24 hours off each week). Meals and accommodation included.
What You’ll Be Doing
  • Provide on‑site training to weekly Dining Hall volunteer teams with collaboration from rental site staff
  • Supervise Dining Hall Team of 4‑6 each session
  • Manage the execution of water stations and snack throughout the day
  • Facilitate creative programming and execute all‑camp programs and creative skits throughout camp
  • Contribute to our culture of diversity, inclusion, belonging and equity (DIBE) by ensuring that all staff feel represented, valued, and heard across all aspects of their identity, including gender, age, religion, ethnicity, nationality, race, and sexuality.
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Previous experience in camping, youth recreation and or/ experiential education
  • Previous experience supervising teams
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including team building, and facilitation skills
  • Ability to take initiative, problem solve and work as a team member.
  • Experience or understanding of cancer diagnosis and it’s physiological, social, and emotional impact or a willingness to learn.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR‑C
  • Criminal Record Search including vulnerable sector check (once hired)
  • Must provide proof of up-to-date childhood immunizations
  • Must provide proof of a primary series (initial vaccine and one booster) of the COVID‑19 vaccines as well as a booster within 12 months of their camp start date
  • English is required;
    French/Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset due to the organization’s nationwide operations.
